Do the Brita water bottles actually work? Do they make the water fountain water actually taste better?

I don't want to bring in the amount of water our family of 5 would drink in a summer day! I would prefer to come in with less and refill bottles. But I want to know if they actually work or should I just fork out the money to pay for water?

We found that they worked just fine. However, you can ask for a cup of ice water at any counter service spot and they'll give it to you- and it is also filtered, so it doesn't taste nasty, and it's cold. Sometimes, the water from the drinking fountains isn't very cold.

Thanks!

We've used them for the past few trips and they worked well. We also carry a backpack with an insulated pack and put the water bottles in there to keep them a little cooler since the water gets warm really fast if left out. You can refill them at drink stations or pour a cup of cold water from counter service into them. We also carry a few bottles of extra water around in case our brita ones run out of water while we are in line. I usually order a case of water bottles from staples or garden grocer.

In the summer, just carrying extra stuff gets annoying and hot. We also just ask for cups of ice water at CS and Kiosks (not all have water available) and drink whenever we need it. We do not carry water around with us.

They worked well for us; and if you look around you might find a good coupon for them. The last one I bought was $8 and I found a $4 coupon for it so it only cost $4!

I normally carry a metal water bottle with a wide mouth on it, would a counter service place fill it with ice water for me if I asked?

No, they will give you a cup of water and you'd have to pour it in the bottle.

We have the Brita soft side water bottles and just love them. I bring mine everywhere. It really takes the 'ick' flavor out of the water fountains.

A word of caution though, the hard sided bottles are terrible! You have to suck pretty hard to get water out of them. I gave myself a wretched inner ear infection/injury using the hard-sided one. I hadn't had an ear infection since childhood. After using this bottle at work a single day, my ears were very painful. Probably will vary by person, but the soft sided ones are much better.

We have some Brita bottles and think they help enough to make it worthwhile, BUT the size of the Brita bottles is larger than is convenient for each of us to carry. Therefore, I tend to get water to "run through" the Brita bottle I carry, filling up each of the family members' smaller reusable bottles. We all carry a smaller bottle which fits better in pockets and weighs less but we have at least a small amount available whenever. Because the Brita bottle is larger, I tend to leave it empty to reduce weight, and no one drinks directly from it (functions more as a pitcher). Takes a few minutes to do this, but a short break can be nice anyway.
