Hey guys! My husband and I drink TONS of water (2 liters a day each) We currently have in our budget extra$$ for bottled water. HOwever, I'm always looking for ways to save$$ and recently heard about these brita water bottles with filters that filter the water as you drink.

Does anyone have any experience with these? Do they really work?? Esp with the "horrible" fla water??

Thanks!!

We bought one a couple weeks ago for our upcoming trip. I haven't used in FL yet of course, but the water from it tastes the same as our water in the big Brita. Our water isn't too terrible here, but I do notice the difference.

It was only $6.99 at Walmart, definitely cheaper than $2.50 a bottle for water at WDW!

We've been using them for years. They work just fine with the water issues at WDW. They take ice well, too, thanks to the wide mouth.

They work great! We bought 2 for our family to use while down there this July (largely on reading all the great recommendations it got from this board), and we were so glad we did. Filled them with water and ice from our rooms in the morning, and as the bottles got empty we would just ask for a cup of ice (be sure to get a large cup) from any place that had ice (which is free), and filled them with water from any fountain. You couldn't tell you were drinking Florida water at all, it was cool and crisp. It's one of the best investments of $6 you'll ever make.

We found they worked great in WDW, but the one trip where we stayed off-site, they hotel water was so bad that we still had to buy bottle water to drink there.

Maybe you folks can help me here. I bought us 3 for our upcoming trip, and I too drink a lot of water (and our home water isn't great). I tried one of the Britta bottles as soon as I got it, and uhm.. well, I sent my husband out for water from the store a while ago and he asked why I didn't use the Britta bottle. I didn't want to tell him it was a bit gross after I'd been all gung ho about them!

So when I first used it, I opened it, cleaned it out, filled it with water, inserted the filter and squeezed the whole bottle of water out like the instructions say to. It came out with black-ish (charcoal?) water. It was nasty!! Then I re-filled it and repeated, though I think the instructions said it was ready to use, I was a bit icked out. THEN I tried drinking from it but all I could think about was drinking the dirt filled water.

How do you get past that? Or does it not bother you to drink the charcoal?

Should I do something else other then what the instructions say to get it ready? I would really like to take these with us and enjoy them, ykwim?

Thanks for any advice!!

We had a charcoal filter on our household water supply for years when we used a well. As long as we changed the filter pretty much on schedule, there was never anything in the water. If we left one in way past scheduled replacement, you would start to see black specks.

This was a brand new filter though. Is that normal that the first water to come out of it will have the charcoal in it?

Thanks for the advice!!

Sherry

Yes, that is normal. Just squeeze it out and there won't be any charcol left after that.

As other posters have said, they really work great.

The initial rinse just gets off the loose charcoal. It does not keep happening...don't worry! The charcoal is what cleans out the yucky stuff from the water. I ran water through mine twice just to make sure it got it all off. After that...no problems.

Brita bottles are wonderful! I love ours. My DD use hers all the time at her sports practices. Saves me a bundle since our tap water at home is disgusting. It is definately worth the investment.

We use Charcoal filters in our turtle tank and have to rinse them thoroughly first. IT just cleans the dust off.

We also have a whole house water filter and have to run the faucet for a few minutes after we change it to rinse the charcoal dust off.

Thanks, y'all! I think I must have been too anxious to use it and should have rinsed one more time.

Now I'm happy happy again!

They sound great. Do they have a "name", how long should they last and can you buy them most places?

Sorry for all the questions!

Just picked up 2 from Wal-mart yesterday. They're called Brita Fill & Go and were something like $6.99. It's a 1 liter sports-type bottle. The box says to "replace the filter every 15 gallons or about every 2-3 months; depending on taste & usage."

If you look for them at Wal-mart, they're not in the sporting goods. They're in the hardware section with all of the other water filtration stuff.

Hope that helps! And hope it helps us with the bad tasting water!

Many thanks CajunGirl2 - that's just what I wanted to know.:D

I even saw them in the local grocery store (Clemens Markets). They must be getting popular.

I just bought two at K-Mart - they were on sale for $4 each - extra filters (3) were on sale for $2.50. They were in the plumbing dept. (no clue why) :)
