Brita Sport Filters and flavor packets - any problems?

After seeing them mentioned in a few posts, my DW and I are going to take a couple of the Brita personal sport bottle/filters with us next week. We were also thinking of using the individual use Crystal Light packets in them for some added flavor and variety instead of plain water. Has anyone tried that combination before? I'm worried about the flavored powder having a negative impact on the filter...

Never tried the Britta filter bottles but we love the Crystal light packets. I wish they made them in more flavors, we love the lemonade!

Oh, yea...the filter is a cylinder type piece that you sit on the bottle opening and then twist the sport top on...you could just as easliy leave the filter out and twist the top back on.

And just a side note on the filters...before you use them put water in them and then squeeze the water out to force water through the filter before you drink from it. Our brand new filters made the water look black until a bit of water was flushed thorugh them. The filtered bottles worked great for our trip.

The way our individual filter bottles work is that you put the water in the bottle, and screw on the top - complete with filter. Then, the water is filtered as you drink it. The only way to have filtered water with your flavor packets would be to drink the flavored water through the filter. As another person posted, this might filter out the flavor - but I'd be concerned that it would mess up the filter.

If you want unfiltered flavored water, it is possible to remove the filter and use the sports bottle without it. However, if you have previously used it to filter water, the cylindrical filter (about the size of a roll of Tums or Rolaids) will drip water, and have to be stored somewhere. In other words, you wouldn't want to switch back and forth between filtered water and unfiltered flavored water while touring the parks. (And, I would think it kind of defeats the purpose of filtering the water to improve its taste.)

I think you'd have to squeeze the filtered water out thru the top into another bottle containing the drink mix.

I'm from the UK, where can I get hold of these Brita water bottles? Do they sell them in Walmart? We don't seem to have them over here.

I got my Brita bottle at the dreaded Walmart ($8). It works great for ridding the Disney water of the funky sulphur taste. I would only run water through it. Sugar will gum it up. If you want lemonade made with filtered water, buy the Brita pitcher ($20), filter the water, then make the lemonade.

The Crystal Light packs are sugar free, so I don't think that would be a problem. (Though I did get a box of the Iced Tea flavor and fully intend to add copious amounts of sugar to those in order to make sweet tea the way God intended...)

Maybe we'll just get cups of water from the counter service places, pour the water into the bottle, pour flavor packs into said empty cups, then squirt filtered water back into now flavor-filled cups and have tasty refreshing, non-sulfurous beverages.

As for the pitcher, something tells me that it would be most inconvenient whilst parousing the park to carry a large pitcher filter around. But it works great at home! Like magic.

It doesn't matter if it's sugar-free; any substance other than water will still ruin the filter. If you really want flavored drinks made w/ filtered water, carry one Brita and one larger non-filter bottle. Put the water into the Brita, then squeeze it out into the plain bottle. Add the mix to the flltered water in the larger bottle, then take the filter out of the Brita and pour half of the mixed drink into it. That way you get flavored drinks for two people using only two bottles. You'll need a small ziploc to hold the drippy filter when you're not using it.

New Brita filters must be flushed before you drink the water, to get rid of the loose charcoal bits. Run at least two full bottles of water through the new filter before you attempt to drink from it. (This is noted in the instructions that come with the bottles and filters.)

I have not used it myself but they are inexpensive, about the cost of 2 bottles of water in the parks. I have not been able to find replacement filters for my britta bottle so I am thinking about geting some of these.

I bought the water bottle filters (only, not the bottles) at this website that fit on most regular water bottles! It was great! Link I bought the first one on the right. Before your trip, you can test and see which water bottles they fit in. I ended up buying an empty water bottle that was in a bottle holder with a strap and it fit perfectly. Saved us a lot of money at Disney in August!
