Bringing water?

We're cruising in March, my husband always has bottled water when we travel. On our first cruise a few years ago, we drove to the port and brought a case of water in our luggage. This time we're flying and obviously won't be packing a case of water. What's the best way anyone has brought water on??

Any water is to be carried aboard and not checked. Some people load a rolling suitcase with water if they "need" it - the rolling aspect helps them move it around until the cabins are opened.

While expensive, you can order it from Disney, as well.

How are you getting to the port? Many of the car services will make a grocery stop.
Are you arriving the night before? Take an Uber to a store near your hotel.

We bring it in a carry on with our stuff wee need prior to getting our room. After the cruise is over, we can use the empty rolling suitcase for souvenirs or dirty laundry.

Simple - bring an empty bottle of some sort and fill it on the cruise!

Ive read about people sticking a luggage tag to a case of water or soda and checking it... This seems easier than lugging it around. As for getting it there, I sent an amazon shipment to the hotel we stayed at the night before embarkation and it worked great!

Technically that is NOT allowed. But the porters are so much just in it for the tips, they'll slap a luggage tag on anything. That bunch of water or soda could well end up in the middle of a massive pile of luggage where it will bust and damage everything around it. (And incidentally if that happens, you will get called down and will be responsible for paying for the damage to others' belongings. Saw the discussion between ships officers, security, and a man who thought he'd get some extra wine on board in his checked bag - some wine which broke and damaged luggage around his.)

Be courteous and do what DCL asks you to do - carry it on.

I get not putting a glass bottle of wine, which is prohibited , inside your checked luggage, but I haven't seen anything about water/soda. It is not on the prohibited list of items and shouldn't need to be hand checked. It seems if the porters throw a case of bottled water (when they can clearly see what they are tossing around) hard enough to cause damage then it would be hard for Disney to hold you responsible if there is nothing saying that this is not ok.

I'm 99% sure I've read FROM DCL that you're welcome to bring as much water or soda as you want on board but it must be in your carry-on. @PrincessShmoo - do you know where it is? I know you have the luggage pile-up picture somewhere.

And anyway...

A) Soda most certainly would damage things.

B) I don't want to get my suitcase and find that it's soaked because someone insisted they have to check their water.

I did read somewhere in Disney's regs that cases of water have to be in carry on luggage and not checked. And yes, since we've had two well-made metal framed luggage get bent and crushed over the years from the way the luggage is tossed and stacked, I would in no way trust that a flimsy case of wrapped water that is now bottled in the flimsiest of plastics won't explode under the weight of the handling and luggage. You not only waste your money for the water, but may end up spending a lot more for damages and not following the rules.

We use a car service that makes a store stop on the way to the port. We use one of our spinner carry on luggages for the case -- making it very easy move around until our room is ready.

It's not like at a hotel where they put your bags inside small cart and take it to your cabin.

Yeah, I remember that in Barcelona -- when they left all of the containers out in the rain uncovered before loading them. When our luggage got to our room, it and everything inside was soaked!

We always fly in the day before for this very reason. Hubby always needs to make a stop at the local liquor store. We just find a table by the pool as soon as we get on board and park our junk there while we swim and scope the ship out.

I always ordered it ahead of time and had it waiting in my room. Yes, it is expensive, but a cost we were willing to pay for the convenience. A quick fax a few weeks before we left and a case of 24 bottles was in our room when we walked in.

As far as I know, it doesn't specify anything anywhere about beverages other than wine or beer. But the extrapolated idea from this:

Disney Cruise Line Guests 21 years and older may bring a maximum of 2 bottles of unopened wine or champagne (no larger than 750 ml) or 6 beers (no larger than 12 ounces) on board at the beginning of the voyage and at each port of call. These beverages must be packed in carry-on (not checked) bags or luggage.

has led to the thought that all beverage must be carried on.

I agree that I don't want someone's ill-packed beverage (of whatever type) leaking all over my bags (or anyone else's) and damaging my clothes.

In the past the porters (who DON'T work for DCL) have readily said "yes, you can check that" and slapped a luggage tag on it. They don't want to jeopardize a tip by saying "no".

While there is a cost... When we cruise, we cruise when we have enough $$ to afford a nice trip. WHile we do not splurge on a lot of things, we do take advantage of the nice amenities of a luxury cruiseship. Any bar staff CM will sell you a water package (or sodas), deliver it to your cabin and put it in your fridge. How awesome is that? Relax and enjoy your cruise.

Nice sentiment -- and so true. But for me, I do have a hard time paying $37 plus for a case of water I can get at the store for $5. I've only ordered water twice on a cruise -- our Med cruise on Disney, and recently on the NCL Bermuda cruise (where they charged $58 for a case). That being said, if I don't use the car service with the grocery stop, and ordering onboard is our only choice, then we just budget for it or use our reward dollars and go with the flow.
