Unless they have lifted the liquid requirements of the total amount of liquid on your carry-on being under 3 oz (I believe), you cannot take drinks through security. Back in January, I accidentally forgot to take a water bottle out of my backpack, and the people at security took it away (oh well, it wasn't important to me cuz the water was for the bus ride to the airport only).
So, no drinks allowed through security, but you can purchase them once in the terminal area and take them on the plane that way.
As far as I know, snacks are still fine and I take some anytime I travel.
Edit: Sorry... thought this was about carry-ons!!! But still good to know! I would still make sure there are no restrictions on checking drinks. However, adding drinks to your checked does add a lot of weight, so really watch that. Most airlines allow 50 lbs max for checked before charging.
