Bringing Towels to camp

Because we're flying with our camp gear, I'm watching every item's weight. (Just the tent and footlocker alone are 31lbs!)(I'm rethinking the footlocker...)

My husband recommended bringing the small towels that swimmers use instead of so many bath towels. Has anyone used either of these:

That way I could bring just one regular towel and one lightweight towel (plus a few washcloths). I guess at the price, I could just order one of each... but if anyone has any experience, I'd welcome the wisdom!

Thanks again for all your help with my newbie questions... I can't wait to come back from my adventure so I can contribute something instead of always asking questions! :)

You don’t need to bring towels little secret if you call the front desk and tell them you forgot towels they will bring them for you. Or you can go to the cabins in the morning and get some from the maid’s cart. Disney is very good about these kinds of things. One trip we forgot to pack pillows, sheets and blankets within 30 mins of calling the from desk we had them.

Thanks for the tip on the towels, Todd. I didn't realize they would do that.

In answer to the OP's question..... I have two such towels, and they are great. Expensive, but great. They are like chamois for humans!:thumbsup2

Ooooh... great tips! Thanks!

I might still buy one of the swimmers ones... if not because I'm really curious about it! But not having to bring towels will really help.

I'm sure I can't iron on or screen print on it! Which will make my husband glad-- he's a little confused why everything has to be monogrammed o:laughing:r personalized! :)

Another thing just go pool hopping to any pool other than the two at fort they have towels there. For some reason Disney feels Fort people don’t need towels at the pool

Funny story about towels at the Fort.
Last trip there, in the cabins, I wasn't sure if they had towels at the pool or not. (This was before I started spending all my free time on the Dis...) I called the front desk and asked, and they told me "sure, there are towels at the pool for your use."
So off we went and naturally there were no towels. The life guard actually laughed at us. Of course not, no towels at the Fort. He did call and they had housekeeping send over a few towels for us which was really nice. He told them our cabin number and I thought he was trying to confirm that we weren't campers for some reason. Instead, something must have gotten lost in the translation with mousekeeping, because there was a huge bag of fresh towels in our cabin when we got back. The next day, I left a note saying thanks for the towels, please take the extras we don't need them. Instead, she left another bag.
I counted and we had 198 towels in various sizes in our cabin. That number does not include washcloths. We could have had a whole towel zoo if our mousekeeper had been so inclined.
It got cold that day and we never went back to the pool, otherwise we were going to drag the extra bags of towels over there and toss them out to the poor towel deprived guests.

There ARE towels at the Fort. Don't let anybody tell you otherwise.

FtWilderness Guy is the towel pro. He patiently waits until he sees a vacant chair with a towel neatly folded on it. Then he swoops in for the snatch!! That's how he gets a frankentowel to go with his frankensoap!! :lmao:

I just realized why they told you there were towels. Cheshire Figment recently updated the ticket sticky with info on what happens when you call Disney.

Here the part that applies.

The Main Switchboard (MS) is the main number (407-824-2222). It is also the Resort phone number on the back side of your Resort Reservations form. They are the ones that you get if you press "0" from any telephone on property. Also, if you try to get your Resort Front Desk from a room. They also answer all calls to The Walt Disney Company Corporate Offices in Burbank. If you ask, they will identify themselves as "Guest Services".

You may not have even been talking to someone in Fl. :goodvibes

Yes, the lifeguard told me that when you press the 'front desk' button from the cabins, most of the time it takes you to the WL front desk operator. And naturally, the WL offers towels at the pool. :)
I find it bizarre that they don't have them at the fort. The are crappy thin towels and I can't imagine people taking them, and they obviously have truckloads of them - why not put them at the pool?!

But not for tent camping, correct? Isn't the OP talking about tent camping?

I would have loved to have called a front desk and gotten someone to bring towels to our campsite when our tent leaked in a heavy rainstorm and we used all our towels to mop up the inside! Maybe the same person who drove by very slowly in a WDW van and watched my DH in the pouring rain trying to push the pool of water off our site with a piece of bark would have brought the towels. Except he probably wouldn't have gotten out of the van to deliver them.

Thanks for the help guys!

Sheesh-- Frankentowels and Frankensoap!! I thought all I had to worry about was the mythical black bear!). :scared1:

I've decided to bring 2 regular towels and 2 of those special swim towels for two people. If we run out, I'll head over to indimom3's cabin and borrow one of her 200 towels!!

Seals-- your story is my biggest fear!! I'm borrowing our tent from my mom (who is ultra-camper... so funny since I'm ultra-spa-girl!) who swears up and down that the tent is sealed and waterproof. I'm still thinking about setting it up, getting inside and having my husband blast the hose from the top!! Even so, I'm bringing a clothesline and clothespins... just in case! :laundy:
