I finally got a lap top and will need to bring it to WDW in upcoming trips. Help a laptop-clueless gal out!

1. I know I should lock it up to something in the room while out - anyone have a suggestion for a good cable/lock?

2. How the heck do I get online?! Do I just plug into the wall and POOF! I'm all set? Do I need to make a request through the front desk? Sorry - this is new territory for me!

We bring our lap top all the time, we never lock it up, never had a reason to, my DH will just slip it one of the drawers under some clothes if he feels the need. Now you will hear of theft at WDW but I've been going 2 times a year for the last 10 and have never ever had anything stolen. mabey I'm just lucky.
as for internet, we don't use it, but I would figure when you check in just tell the CM you'll want internet and they will take care of it. I know there is a fee involved for access. I'm sure you'll get lots of info and opions here. Enjoy;)

We were just at the Yacht Club...DH left his on the desk during our entire stay. We were uploading pics everyday....he has a Sprint card so we get internet anywhere!
Good luck and have fun!

1. Here is what I use. http://www.officedepot.com/ddSKU.do?level=SK&id=196957&Ntt=cable lock&uniqueSearchFlag=true&An=text
I stayed at AKL last week and my laptop (14" screen) fit perfectly in the room safe. I didn't use the cable lock at all.

2. No wireless at WDW resorts yet (there are a couple of exceptions such as FW around Crockett's Tavern) but you still have to pay for them. Bring a cat 5 network cable from home (minimum 3' LG). I think deluxe hotels provide the cable, not sure about mod & values though. You simply plug in the network cable and then open up your browser. Browser will bring up a sign-up screen for to initiate the service. It is $9.95 for a 24 hr period that begins as soon as you click yes.

I wish that WDW would provide wireless internet access throughout their resorts. I would spend more time at the pool bar then and less in my room.

I think most if not all of the lobbies have wireless but it is still $9.95/24 hour period. If you choose to use the connection in the villa, that is a completely separate $9.95 according to reports.

Your villa will have a cable in the closet. Just call mousekeeping if it is missing.

But even with the wireless router - you are still paying the 9.95/day fee?? Is that correct??

A friend just purchased a USB device from Sprint that he uses on his boat, etc. He loves it. He's a brave man, dumped his land line, his cable, high speed internet, Yikes. The device was $79.99 plus $40/month. I was thinking of doing this for vacation next year - we will be gone close to 3 weeks. Plus I would get a 25% discount from my employer.

Anyone have any experience with reception with Sprint in the World?? Hilton Head?? and Vero Beach?? Thanking everyone in advance.

Thanks so much everyone! Yes, locking it is a must for me - I can't afford to take any chance on it disappearing as my homeowner's insurance only covers items in the house itself.
Sadly, I'll have to do some work while in The World, so the cord in the room will work best. Sounds easy enough for me to handle!:rotfl:

We used our Sprint broadband card at BWV and it worked great. I use one for work anyway, so it works out well that I can take it to WDW and not pay that $9.95/day!

The $40/month fee is very limited in GB, & if you cancel early there is a $150.00 cancel fee
