bringing strollers up to gate

Does anyone know what the airline policies are (particularly Continental) on bringing a double stroller up to the gate and keeping it in the little closet by the cockpit? I know you could bring a single stroller and do that, but I'm not sure if a double would be too big. I have a Maclaren side-by-side, which folds like an umbrella stroller, but is still kinda big as compared to the single folded ones (obviously). I hate to bring that to the airport only to be told it's too big and needs to be checked in. My only other option is to bring 2 singles (I have a 2.5 yr old and a 9 month old) and just check one in at baggage claim and let the 2.5 yr old walk on & off the plane. I will be flying back home alone with the 2 kids (DH has to go to a convention in TX the next day after we return, so he will fly from Orlando to TX, while I fly home to NJ), so I can't handle 2 single strollers, so I would only take one up to the gate.
Has anyone ever brought a double stroller up to the gate? If so, could you tell me if it is a side-by-side or a tandem one? Thanks!!!

They will gate check your stroller. You take it down to the plane. First you get a tag from the gate agent and put it on the stroller.

Just leave it outside the plane. When you get off the plane the stroller will be waiting or it may take a few minutes. Just stand outside the plane.

So does this mean I can bring a double stroller? Come to think of it, the last time I went to WDW, I left the single stroller right on the walkway right before I got on the plane, and once the flight was over, it was waiting for me in the same area. I'm guessing I won't be the first person to ever bring a doble stroller to the gate. Thanks safetymom!

I am sure you aren't the first person to have a double stroller to gate check.

A double stroller is fine! Drop off as you enter plane and pick up on the way out!

I don't think that they put any strollers in the front of the plane. When you gate check your stroller they put the stroller down with the luggage it's just that they bring it up to the ramp when the plane lands. So yes, you should be able to check your double. At least this is what they do with my single when I check it.
