Bringing my nephew...

Hi, I haven't been on the boards for awhile, but now that I have a trip planned for later this summer, I'll be searching for more tips. Anyway, I know that this has been addressed before, but I can't find it: What documentation do you need when you fly with a child that is not yours? Is there some pre-printed document that you can notarized?

This will be my 9 yo nephew's 1st trip and I want to make it special for him.

I flew with my nephew last year (4) and called the airlines and they said as long as he was under 18 I didn't need anything...and I didn't.

We are taking our nephew this year also

his first trip

we are driving but i am taking a signed form from his parents giving me permission to sign for medical treatment and a copy of his ins card

When we took our nephew on one trip ('01) and our two neices on another ('02), we just had their mom write advising that we were their guardian through the dates of our trip. She listed medical insurance info as well as phone numbers where she or her parents could be reached in an emergency. We never had it notorized, but then again nothing happened, so it wasn't an issue. If it had been notorized then it probably would have carried a little more weight, should it have been needed. She also gave us photos just in case they got lost or anything bad like that were to happen. It was never an issue on the airline, and we were never asked for ID for any of them. Of course, it wouldn't hurt to contact your airline just to make sure, but it shouldn't be a problem.

Thanks. I already told his mom that I would have to get a notarized statement from her and a copy of his insurance card. I just remember seeing (somewhere on these boards) a copy of a statement that someone had used for just such an occurence.
