Bringing my bikes with me on the trip?

Has anyone ever brought their bikes with them to a DVC resort? I've noticed people talking about long walks between OKW and SSR etc. Also traveling between areas of these larger resorts including BWV and the connecting parks. Are there bike racks at most DVC resorts or do they prefer you to rent Disney bikes? It would be very convenient if there were facilities there to allow you to lock up your bicycles.

Bike riding is suppose to be kept to the resort itself. I think you might be able to bike over to the West Side from OKW where there is a bike rack. There is also a bike rack at the very end of SSR near DD. No bikes are allowed at DD or on any of the golf courses. You can ride your bike to EPCOT from BWV I think there is a place you can lock your bikes there at the entrance.

WDW is a rather bike-cruel place. The roads are certainly not designed to accommodate bicycles, and there are no bike paths to speak of. Biking on the roads in heavy traffic composed almost entirely of people who don't know where they are going is not a prescription for biking fun. You'd have to have a serious death wish to ride on the main WDW roads.

I wish it were possible to bike at WDW! I'd love to have that convenience, and my family could easily bike from any DVC resort to any theme park or other attraction much quicker than driving or bussing...to say nothing of the environmental benefits. But WDW is not built that way.

I'd leave the bikes at home.

Ft Wilderness is great for biking. Also OKW, even just riding all around the property would take you a while. But I agree you couldn't really bike on the main roads outside of your resort.

Disney needs more Bike Plus Rollerblade paths period, with all the property they have it would be so wonderfull, I love Rollerblading on the path between the Wilderness lodge and Fort Wilderness and then going all over the campground it is a ton of fun I can cover ground so fast I just wish they had this all over the entire resort, It would be alot more environmentally friendly and enjoyable then riding a bus.

We have rented bikes at OKW and ridden into DTD early in the morning. Even then, as empty as it was, an officer stopped us to enforce the no bike rule. There really is not much biking to do - unless you ride repeatedly from OKW to DTD and back.

Our last trip we drove up to Winter Garden and took the 26 mile WEst Orange Trail - we rented bikes very cheaply at the start of the trail from a bike shop. Beautiful trail through orange groves, stands of live oaks, and horse farms on an old rail bed. A nice vacation from the vacation.

Is there a bike rack to lock up your bikes if you stay at OKW and ride your own bike up to the pool?

WOW - I didn't know therer was a no bike rule.

SO - where is this written where we can see the other rules that might apply also?? Where does it say we can't ride our bikes to and from resorts/places?? Jogging is all over the resorts and to me that is more dangerous than bikes.

Inquiring minds want to know.

I don't know about OKW but we've had our bikes twice at Ft Wilderness and never locked them. Maybe if they were really expensive but we never had a problem. They were just parked at our site all week.

You're not supposed to run or jog along the roadsides either. There are several locations where signs are posted. Nothing but cars, buses, trucks and other licensed vehicles on the roads.

Also, no bike rack at the pool at OKW. They do rent bikes out of Hanks, though, to ride around the resort.
