Bringing jogger stroller instead of regular?

We are thinking about bringing out jogger stroller instead of our peg perego. Will it fit in the trunk of a large rental car? How about on the plane, will they stow it underneath. Has anyone taken the jogger stroller? We have one that folds up but it is still pretty big when it is folded up. The thing is, it moves so much easier, we are going for two weeks to disneyworld and would rather have the big wheels. Any suggestions or comments would be appreciated.

When we went last May our kids were 4 (but the size of the average 6 yo) and 15 months (Very small for his age). Since at home DS4 doesn't normally use a stroller, but know from past experience at WDW it is very necessary, we brought the double jogger. Both DH and I LOVED that decision.

We did not need to spend extra money on a rental or a new stroller. It pushes like a dream and really isn't much bigger than a rental either. There was plenty of room, it was much more comfortable for the kids, both seats recline either together or individually, and when both were sleeping it was a godsend-- especially to and from the parks.

HOWEVER, my jogger has the option of locking the wheel in place or to swivel. It has a smaller front wheel than many and actually goes under the footstand. When people complain about joggers, they complain about the pertruding and non-swivel front wheel.

People also complain about the busses. We drive, so we only took a bus twice. Again, no more difficult than any other stroller; we just needed a little advance preperation. For the most part, the bus drivers will open the handicap entrance for you so you can just descreetly sneak in and out at the back. We stayed at WL, and took the boat a lot, just wheeled right on to the larger boat, folding was necessary for the two times we had to take the smaller boat. Again not an issue. When taking the monorail, we just used the handicap car (waiting if there was someone handicapped of course).

As far as a plane goes, I'd get a cover/bag for it and gate check it. I have no problem fitting the double jogger in our vehicles--a Ford Explorer at the time and my DH's tiny Subaru Forester.

WE have a chrysler 300M...double jogging stroller fits, but I must remove the front wheel. Just a hair not enough of clearnance.

We are also planning to bring our double jogging stroller. It is a Safari TT (small front wheel that swivels tucked under fender). Did you buy a bag or make a bag that fit it? It sounds like a good idea to bag it, just don't know what to use. Thanks

Don't do it. Picture yourself trying to get through a crowd to make a dinner PSwith the jogger. Or picture the person infront of you stops dead in their tracks and just as your getting around them someone else cuts you off.....Those bad boys just don't stear easily enough to be helpful.

Absolutely untrue that the jogger is somehow worse than any other stroller, especially the rentals.

The jogger is no different than any other double. Or a single. Our jogger manuvers MUCH BETTER than most strollers I have used--double and single. And I speak from experience of using different strollers at WDW!! Although it could depend on the jogger. Ours is a schwinn (my double, not single) and it is soooooo much better than most double joggers. It is much better than my supposed top-notch single jogger. It is not the Safari TT, but the model up (can't think of the name), but both are similiar in design.

I, personally, wouldn't make a bag. I don't have that kind of talent. Schwinn makes a stroller travel bag that I would buy. I would always buy the bag. But that is me. It protects your stroller during travel.

Oh, and with the Schwinn...When you do need to fold it, don't forget to lock the front wheel so it won't swivel. Makes things much easier.

Personally I would bring the Peg Perego. IMO, joggers are just too large to maneuver easily through the crowds at Disney World. Yes, the stroller itself might handle easily, but I personally think that just the size alone would make it difficult to get through crowds. I love my jogger too, but we brought our Peg with us and I'm so glad we did -it worked out great.

A little advice about gate checking strollers - I've never had a problem in the past, but on this last trip the airline broke my cupholder! So, you definitely might want to get a bag, even though it might be a pain to put it in the bag at the gate.

FWIW, we had friends come with us one time and had their jogging stroller. A CM happened to catch them just as we entered the park and told them that Jogging strollers are not allowed. We questioned him because we had seen them many times, he told us that it's one of those rules that doesn't always get enforced, but it is the policy of Disney.

That said, since that time Disney has introduced the rental stroller that looks similar to a jogger.

That said, since that time Disney has introduced the rental stroller that looks similar to a jogger.

They allow them--the ones they do not allow are the bike/trailer jogging stroller combo's that have the huge bar extending out front with the wheel b/c it is a tripping hazard. They gave me a free rental. then I saw someone who had it--they just kept the bar tucked under (a two wheeled stroller) and that was allowed. So later in the day, I traded back for mine.

You can look online. I know for my stroller, it was just ordered directly from the manufactor (Schwinn). It is an optional accessory.

I've never seen a bus driver allow anyone to enter the bus by the back door unless they were in a wheelchair or scooter. They allow you to exit by the back door, but not enter.

If you have a jogger that only folds with the wheels removed, be aware that you will probably have to carry the wheels onto the plane to be stored in the overhead bin, and they will count as your carry-on.

If you need to do this, you should bring some sort of sack to put the wheels in so that they don't bounce all over the place during flight. (An old pillowcase would probably do it.)

The best jogging strollers for travel are the Keltys; the Joyrider single and the Deuce Coupe SBS; they have umbrella-fold handles, so they are very compact for jogging strollers.

We brought our all-terrain Mountain Buggy Urban Double on a trip a couple of years ago. www.mountainbuggyusa.com

It was wonderful and not at all hard to manuever. However, it has front swivel wheels and they are only 12-inch wheels. However, that year we drove to Florida from Texas in our truck. I am not so sure I would want to worry about flying with a jogger. We don't have a travel bag and I didn't feel like getting one for a trip since the price of the bag would probably cost what it would to rent a stroller at WDW for multiple days. The next trip we flew and brought a double Maclaren umbrella stroller. We really missed having the double jogger. It was SO much nicer to use. However, the year we brought the jogger we drove it to the parks and did not use Disney transportation. On the days we took Disney transportation we used 2 smaller single strollers. I'm not sure that I would want to mess with having a large/bulky/heavy stroller on the bus or monorail.

I've never seen a bus driver allow anyone to enter the bus by the back door unless they were in a wheelchair or scooter. They allow you to exit by the back door, but not enter.

I had several people on this board tell me to just ask the bus driver and they will do it before we took our stroller. However, we never had to ask. Most of them looked at the stroller and told us to go to the handicap door and opened it all on their own. I think they realize it is just easier on everyone and helps them keep their schedule better. Even when we weren't taking the bus, I saw this done for many other people.
