Bringing fruit on board at embarkation?

Seems like a silly question, but when I went grocery shopping, I *might* have bought too much fruit to finish in the couple of days before we sail. I can freeze the bananas (to make banana bread), but can I bring the apples on board with us? I'd hate for them to go to waste.

Thanks.

From DCL's FAQ.
You can not bring on board:
Homemade, precooked or Perishable food or open food containers.

I would assume that fruit would fall in the perishable food category. But we have never tried to do this so hopefully someone that has experience with this can be of more help.

I did stick the last two apples in the fridge the morning we left. One was fine when we got back, and I made the other into a small apple compote for pancakes.

Thanks, all!
