Are you allow to bring past the Security Gate @ Airport? I know you can't bring drinks (liquids). But can I bring food from home to eat @ the airport or airplane. Airport food is so expensive and doesn't taste good.

I would to bring some food and have to throw it out. Would I need to pack seperately to show them? or just in carry-on luggage is fine?

we brought some nutri grain bars in through secutiry in our dd's bag. we wanted to have some snacks on hand in case she was fussy on the plane. They didn't say anything to us when we passed through.

I would like to know for sure too. We are getting to BWI about noon and our flight is at 3,so we were planning to pack some PB&J for the kids for lunch

I took the ready-to-eat tuna salad/chicken salad and cracker lunch kits, sausage links, cheese sticks, pb&j sandwiches, pickles, raisins, a box of doughnuts, empty water bottles (filled them once past security), and individual drink mix pouches all through security in my carry-on I did not declare them separately and had no issue. It was enough for 3 of us to eat 2 meals that day.

I'm planning on packing a lot of food on my carry on. My niece is Lactose Intollerant and it is hard to find food for her.

So far I have one Pringles tube of chips, box of crackers, microwave popcorn, a few jello cups, fruit snacks, bags of cashews, dried cranberries, lollipops. I'm sure I will have more.

I've never had problems bringing food through security. The X-ray machine picked up the Pop-tarts in DD's carryon (I guess because of the jelly in them) but once the TSA guy looked at them he let them through. I've taken bagels and cream cheese, Slimfast bars, granola bars, etc.

I'm pretty sure Jello is a jel. ;)

I always eat at Dulles, they've got a Five Guys.

And no, you can't carry Jello or something like yogurt through security unless it's 3 oz or less and in your quart baggie.

As long as the food is not liquid, cream or gel you can carry it.

If you're packing peanut butter...on my last flight out of Dulles there was a peanut allergy announced onboard and we were asked not to open any peanut products. You may want to bring something that does not contain peanuts as a backup if you intend to eat it on the plane.

You could carry a peanut butter sandwich through security, but not a jar of peanut butter or jelly.

Yup, they took DD's jello cup last time we flew, even though you can clearly SEE what it is! I don't get security these days :confused3 , and with DH being a chemist we have a little bit of knowledge upon which to base our skepticism!

AFAIK, most airlines allow you to brown bag food for the flight. Just be considerate to others and not bring anything too odorous -no limberger and onion on rye sandwiches. :scared1:

Also TSA requires all food to be wrapped and not "loose" because of the conveyor belts in the xray machines.

We've successfully brought Lunchables, bags of chips, Subway sanwiches, homemade tortilla wraps, etc. No drinks. Also brought my own can of mixed nuts.

I had no problem when I was flying back from DL last year with 2 jello cups and some apple sauce cups with a spoon in a ziplock.

Just because you had no trouble doesn't mean these items are permitted. Had they been found, you would have been required to dispose of them. In general, food is OK; just not in liquid or gel form as noted earlier. One of the quirks is that condiments like mustard and may are OK if the already are on a sandwich, but if they are in the individual packets they need to go intp the 3-1-1 bag.
