To those of you who have brought baby food with you - any tips?

I would like to bring the plastic Gerber containers as they seem lighter and I won't have to worry about glass in our suitcase, but at least at our grocery store it seems like it's mostly fruit in those containers, not veggies.

I would assume jars of baby food on WDW property are a bit expensive.

Any tips?

Thanks!

Tamie

We've used netgrocer a couple of times. When we rent a car we stop at the Super Target on the way to the resort.

You may want to try another supermarket, ours also has vegetables in the plastic containers

You can find sweet potatoes, squash, green beans, and peas (and the fruit, too) in the plastic gerber containers. I also use the empty ones to carry premeasured formula. It is much less bulky than the big containers they have with three sections for 8 oz bottle and much cheaper than packets.

We bought it when we had out 13 month niece with us. Just get the pastic ones. Disney does not allow glass into the parts. You will find that you will use more, since you cannot keep leftovers cool.

Our grocery stores only carry the fruits in plastic also. I was not able to find veggies in plastic. On our last trip, I brought fruits in plastic and veggies in glass. The only park that security mentioned the glass was at animal kingdom. Security made some kind of comment that technically glass wasn't allowed due to animal safety but he would make an exception.

BTW, we drove down so weight wasn't that big of a deal, but I did have a plastic container get squished in my diaper bag. I've never had a problem with glass jars breaking and I have even dropped them on the floor a few times. Personally, I prefer the glass jars. Plus, they have more in them.

I always bring glass baby food jars, no one has ever said a word to me about it

one thing on the plastic jars, they have less in them than the glass jars have......evne though they are bigger and they charge more

We brought in both plastic and glass jars. Nobody stopped us with the glass jars. We also brought disposable bibs and disposable spoons. That way we could just toss everything when we were done.

I was told that baby food was the only exception to the "no glass" rule.

I just found a travel feeding bowl at babies R us. Round and folds in 1/2 like a clam shell to hold bib, spoon and 2 GERBER 4 oz. jars. Got it home and the beech nut jars are too tall for 2 to fit. Of course it is a Gerber brand bowl.

Was also suggested to me to bring disposable bibs and spoons so cleanup is easier.

Also had someone suggest shipping via UPS a box of food to your hotel if the other options don't work for you.

The baby food in the "world" is more expensive, as most things are, but they also have a very slim selection, so I would only use this as an emergency. I never had problems taking in glass containers. Mostly we would stop at the store on the way from the airport. If not, we always pack a small box in our suitcase of food. That way we have more room for souveniers on the way home.
Blue Fairy's suggestion of shipping is good too, that way you could include diapers and wipes in the box also.

we just came back from a week stay at CBR with our one year old. We took an entire suitcase filled with all her supplies-diapers, wipes, bibs, bowls, formula, etc. We also took baby food in glass jars packed in between clothes and diapers. We didn't take a whole lot, maybe 10 or 12 jars, because she eats a lot of table food now. The store at CBR had a very limited selection of food, but I did end up buying some fruit there towrds the end of the trip. I think it was 1.95 for a two pack. I also bought her some juices there b/c the only thing I could find in the parks/restaurants was apple. The store had white grape and it was.95 for a litlle bottle!!!!! By the way, I brought galss jars into the park every day and no one said anyhing about it.

Disney will allow you to bring glass babyfood jars...I was there in October and brought it in every day with me.

We brought our babyfood from home, and I kept it in my carry on bag so it wouldn't break. My DD was only 5 months old then, so she wasn't eating THAT much food then! I went to the grocery store to buy more when I needed it.

I have that same bowl! I love it...and I also agree with you on the disposable spoons and bibs. I did keep the spoons for reuse, but if I lost one, I didn't feel as bad.

Whatever you can find in the plastic if it fits your baby's needs use that but you absolutelyi can bring baby food jars into the parks at WDW. Disney dosen't allow any other type of glass container but babyfood. If your baby has a food they really like and only comes in glass I would bring it. A vacation isn't the time to change things around, IMHO.

Also for leftovers, just freeze a mini juice box, or mini water bottle to use as an ice pack. When they thaw you have a drink for you or baby and haven't carried to many extras into the park. My dd's liked the white grape and apple and IIRC gerber has them in a box as does apple & eve, just open and pour into a bottle or sippie (or drink it yourself).

A tip from my sil that worked wonders for our trip with a baby (long time ago, sniff) was to get him/her used to table food and milk/formula at room temp. Not having to warm things was a blessing!

If you run out the baby care centers sell jars but they are pricy, you can pick up a bananna as each park has a fresh fruit stand and mash that in a pinch as well. Also all of the CS restaurants now offer apple sauce as a side for the kids meals. My sil used them alot in Dec, either leftover from my kids or purchased on the side fairly inexpensively.

Have a great trip.

First I also want to put a plug out there for the clamshell bowl--I used it all the time. I don't know if you are still giving your baby cereal - but if you are you can get rice cereal in packets - I think from Gerber- very easy to mix with water/milk/formula/breastmilk right in the travel bowl. The packets make for easy traveling. To cut down on the amount of baby food you will need I also suggest to take advantage of what they serve at the restaurants. You may want to ask at some table service places if they will mash the food for you for certain vegetables. Mashed potatoes work too!

Be sure to take advantage of the baby care stations. They provide a place for less distractions if you have a tough eater like I did. They also have a stove and microwave for heating things too.

I have that bowl and love it!!! It also fits 2 of the Earth's Best organic, too.

I brought both glass and plastic last month and preferred the glass because I didn't have to worry about them getting smashed. Have a great trip!
