Bringing alcohol on the ship. Does beer mean strictly only beer?

I know that we can bring 6 beers pp on the ship but we would have no way of keeping them cold. I was wondering if they would allow seltzers or hard ciders, and if there is any way to get ice in our stateroom. TIA

Your stateroom will have a small fridge and your stateroom host can provide you with a bucket of ice.

The beer question has had different answers. Some people have reported being able to bring cider/hard lemonade type products onboard, while others have been told no as they go through security. If the beverages are not permitted, they will hold them for you and you can pick them up at the end of the cruise.

think "cans" you can bring 6 cans of what ever you like. I brought 6 - 20oz cans of beer and was never questioned.

It does not have to be only cans. But by the rule only 6 containers 12oz or less - bottle or can, plastic or aluminum or glass doesn't really matter. As PP says, it may depend on the security personnel -- if you get someone who is a stickler for the actual rule, it will be denied.

While that is true of most items that are not allowed onboard, confiscated alcoholic beverages are destroyed and not held.

We have brought a 12 pack of seltzer cans on board several times for 2 people before and didn't have issues. This was at Canaveral on the Fantasy.

They go more by the number of cans/beer bottles and number of wine bottles than anything else. One time we had 4 adults sailing and Security goes "They have 6 bottles of wine" We had 8 in that bag. Sir... I wish I had brought more bottles since you cant count.

What I'd love to know is if anyone has had luck bringing canned cocktails on board...

The only alcohol they take and store until the end of the cruise is anything purchased in a port of call.

Sorry, was not trying to spread disinformation.

A guy on our cruise FB group last winter was denied his beverages. I do not recall what they were, something in cans that wasn't beer. He said he was mad because he was told he could get them after the cruise, but he didn't want to fly home with them. I do not know if he was actually able to pick them up or not.

That was probably canned cocktails. I always pack ours wine or beer in a suitcase so they just see them on the scanner and don't have us pull them out to check.

Beverages are supposed to be in carry on bags boarding the ship, not checked luggage.

It is enforced sporadically. My wife and I brought two twelve packs through in Miami in taped up 12-pack of pop case. One had 6 Mtn Dew and 6 Diet Mtn Dew, and one had 12 beers. They didn't look at the contents of either. We laughed and wondered if we could've brought more. Most cruises we bring either 6 or 12 twelve oz cans.

Once we had a 4-pack of 16oz cans and again, nobody said anything. We had meant to consume them in the hotel the night before, and forgot they were in the carry-on bag to be honest. Found them when we unpacked our bags in the room. Security never questioned or even opened the bag to look. I am not promoting this, just saying it happened.

Another time we tried to bring on a Russian Imperial Stout and a Barley Wine that were in 750mL wine-sized bottles (no other beer that time) and hoped we could pay a corkage fee to get one of them served to us for an anniversary dinner at Palo, and maybe one another night. Instead the bottles were confiscated at port... I tired to argue, but to no avail. Both the stout and Barleywine were well within the ABV (12% and 12.8%) of a wine, the bottle size was allowed. However the person read the rules as beer was 12oz only, and this wasn't specifically a wine in the wine bottles. So no go that time. It was a little disappointing, but perhaps I should've known better than to try.

And to another point, that time we were able to pick up our confiscated beer at the end of the cruise. It was at a table in the lobby just to the right of the walk-off gangway.

I say all of this to say, if you follow the exact rules you'll have no issues. If you try something else, your mileage may vary...
