I've heard that you can bring alcohol with you when you board the DCL. Which I think would be a great way to save a little money. However, we're flying down and with the new air travel restrictions, we're wondering if there is a place in the Orlando airport that we can buy wine or beer. Does any one know? We're using Disney transport from the airport to the ship so stopping at a grocery store is out. Any suggestions?

Good morning~

I do not recall any place at MCO to purchase this. We flew in the day before the cruise - rented a car - went to the store - got beer / wine / water and liquor and put it in the extra piece of luggage we had brought. We found it SOOOOOOOO Much nicer to go to our room and just make a drink! We still used the bar (of course - eheh ) but it helped out bar bill

I have questioned this myself. We are cruising in December, using Disney transportation and I also would like to carry on my own booze, lol. We even have a collapsible cooler from one of our disney world trips. Is there a delivery service that can hook up with the goods, just some beer for my husband and maybe some goodies for me, lol.

We had a family reunion and figured mailing down some stuff would help deter some expenses. We found rum and vodka in plastic bottles, bubble wrapped them good and shipped them down via UPS with a tracking number. Mom bought plastic flasks and that's what they used. The boxes were in the room before the luggage.

what about hopping a cab before you go in to a liquor store? there is one in Cocoa Beach...

When we went on the 4 day, our first stop the next morning was in the Bahamas. My friend just bought a bottle of liquor there and was able to bring it on the ship with no questions.

I don't want to deal with the hastle of trying to stop at the store or ship something ahead, so we plan on doing the same thing for our Aug 07 cruise. I thing we can afford to pay for a few drinks for 1st day. Not to mention the liquor was a little cheaper in the Bahamas than at home.

We always buy something near the port to take on board. However, keep in mind the blue light laws when attempting to purchase on a sunday. I ran into this problem once.

We went at the beginning of Dec. 06 I put two bottles of wine in my checked luggage. Also brought some other alcohol home. I just wrapped it in bubble tape and put it in giant plastic ziploc bags. We had no trouble. I thought about beer, but didn't hassle with it. The rules say no shipping alcohol to the warehouse, but who knows if they check.

the rules do say not to ship water or alcohol.. but do they check??

cause others say they did it and just wrapped it in bubble wrap and it was fine. i wouldn't take that much just like 12 cans or something easy...

and then water just 12 bottles unless water bottles aren't too expensive on the ship to purchase!

my husband said he thought there was a duty free store at MCO. does anyone else remember seeing one? and could we take that with us?

thanks for all the great feedback!!:yay:

Be very cautious of bubble wrapped wine in checked luggage. I have friends who had to buy new clothes when they got to their first port. It is easier to but your beverages at your first port.:thumbsup2

My understandin is that you can't purchase anything from a duty-free store unless you are from outside of the country. I just walked into one once to kill time and the employee was quick to ask if I was American and then let me know that I couldn't buy anything.

Thanks for the info...never ventured in because I only saw people leaving with cigarettes.

You guys have all been really helpful!

I have shipped wine home in my suitcase several times after visiting wine country in CA and OR. I put the bottles in plastic bags first (like the kind you get in your hotel room for laundry) and then wrap in bubble wrap. Then I pack all my dirty clothes around. One time even had a TSA inspection of my luggage but all the bottles made it safe and sound...:yay:

Are you going down the night before the cruise?? If so see if gardengrocer.com could deliver some alchol to your hotel room. They do deliver alcohol you just have to email them or call them. We have done this before!!:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

I Think garden grocer requires a min food order before they will add alcohol to the order. That would be handy if they would do just an alcohol delivery. :cheer2:

We ordered Very little and they delivered the alcohol. I say order some small snacks!!:thumbsup2:goodvibes

There is a CVS within walking distance of the dock at Key West that sells wine and beer. No issues bringing that back onboard!

We ordered gift baskets from Shirley and had them include alcoholic beverages. Since we were flying in and using DCL transfers it saved having to find a cab to find a store.

Shirley and Melody were great in putting the "party basket" together. It had everything we wanted/needed plus some extra surprises and was delivered straight to our stateroom. :woohoo:

I would suggest giving them a call. It beat having more things to lug on board ourselves. :goodvibes
