Bring your fishing gear?

I posted this on a different fishing thread over on the theme parks board, but I thought since you guys are the FW experts, I might get a faster answer here.

My DS wants to know if he can bring his own gear and fish at FW. Is this allowed? I know you can rent a cane pole for $4, but is there a charge if you bring your own stuff? According to a guy at work, if you're a FL resident (we are), you don't need a license to fish from the bank, so there shouldn't be an issue with it being legal according to the state.

Also, where do you actually fish? Is it marked, or is anyplace that doesn't have boats in it fair game?

Thanks!

Bring the poles and equipment but don't expect too much big action unless you have live shiners.

The lake at Meadows Complex, the canal behind 300 to 1900 loops and Bay Lake shoreline.

Fishing on Disney property is strictly catch and release. No license is required on property.

Thanks for the info. He's okay with fishing, even if he doesn't catch. He spent 3 hours at my Mom's this Saturday, and never even had a real bite.

I already warned him it's catch and release.

I say "Thank God for Catch and Release"...I really wouldn't know what to do with the fish anyway. I prefer my fish ready for the oven..or better yet..on the menu at my favorite restaurant!

We always did ok catching bream (sunfish) using bread. Behind the Meadows trding post is a good spot. Good luck :)

I took my fly rod before and caught fish after fish with it while people using tradtional tackle were not catching anything. Like the others said, it is catch and release and no license is required. Also, no charge if you bring your own equipment

Definitely bring the gear. I've caught the biggest bass I've ever caught at Disney... Right outside of our room at the Poly I've caught Bass and Bream, caught those with a azalea leaf run through a hook!!
I did the fishing trip with the guide once and that's a hoot. The 3 of us landed 8 or nine bass 2 to 7 pounds. We used rattle traps and nailed 'em.
