Bring Stroller or rent

For a baby that age, I say definitely bring your own stroller. I'm sure your son is used to it and he'll probably take naps in it (if he's a baby who naps in strollers). At a year my DD still took 2 naps a day, so our own stroller was a must. Our DD will be 2 and we're bringing ours for this next trip - she's so comfortable in it, I wouldn't consider anything else. Plus, we're flying down and the stroller is so much more convenient in the airport.
In my opinion, the Disney strollers look like they're better for older kids who normally walk but would get tired and hot with all the walking in disney. :)

Strollers are 8$ a day for a single and $15 a day for a double. If you do a multi-day pass, you get a 10% discount. For a one-year old, I would suggest you bring a stroller because the rentals are hard plastic and don't recline. They're fine for the older babes & children but not very comfy for napping, which a one-year old is more likely to do while you're at the parks. Plus you have to turn it in at the gate, and you may want to have a stroller after you leave the park. If you're staying several days, you could certainly justify the cost of a new stroller that reclines and has a canopy if you don't already have one that will work.

Definately bring your own for a 1 year old. The strollers in the park are plastic, low to the ground and not supportive or comfortable enough for a 1 year old. If your current stroller isn't compact and lightweight you might want to look for something else though. I've seen people trying to get on the buses with these big travel system strollers and it can really be a pain.

The strollers you can rent in the parks are not good for kids that age. Invest in a good lightweight umbrella stroller to use with a little one that age...you will be very glad you did. :)

I suggest bringing your own and I suggest one that can lay down fully and has a good sunshade. You will need both! Have a great time!

Bring your own. It is priceless in the airport! Not only does it hold the baby and you can make decent time but I could also stick a couple of things in the bottom basket.
I like having the softer reclining stroller for my baby/toddler than the hard plastic ones the parks use--MGM is the only stroller that is not hard plastic.

If you have any multi day passes, such as the MYW tickets, do you get the 10% discount?

All4Fun.......Your picture of your little CUTIE in your sig, what type of stroller is he in? If you don't mind me asking. Can you also tell me the weight limit for it?

Last year I bought a umbrella stroller off Ebay for a very good price to take with us to WDW. It did it's purpose, but since it only had a lapbelt, DD would lean foward and grab the front wheels. AAAAHHH!!!! It's amazing we didn't have an accidents with her doing this.

DD is 5, but looks more like a 3 year old and only weighs 43 pounds. We plan on going in May 2006, so I figured by then she would be around 46-47 pounds if that much.

TIA!!!!!

Well first of all, thanks. We think he's pretty cute too. :) The stroller is a Jeep Liberty Urban Terrain by Kolcraft and the stated weight limit is 45lbs. The link is for the exact one we have at Walmart, but you can buy the more expensive "loaded" version of this stroller at BRU too (in nicer fabric too, but it wasn't available when we got ours). With that weight limit though I think this stroller would probably not work for you. If your umbrella still works you could sew your own shoulder harness straps on it. I have seen that suggested here before - there was even a thread about it a while back. Otherwise, people really recommend the Maclaren strollers because they have a 55 lbs weight limit. The Volo is a good one I've seen mentioned quite often for older kids (it doesn't recline). You would probably get a little more use out of it since it has a higher weight limit and it's slightly less expensive than the Jeep as well.

I don't think it is dependant on what type of ticket media you are using. This is from Mousavers.com

Disney offers a discount of 10% (or more) for multi-day stroller rentals. A multi-day rental will also save you time, because you'll be given a receipt that allows you to go up to the cast member dispensing the strollers, have them stamp your receipt, get your stroller and you’re off! No more waiting in the long cashier line to pay for a daily rental. In addition, they will refund any unused days. Thanks to Julie S and Lisa C for additional info.

Thanks for that! I had never heard of that before. My kids are 4 and 6, and I'm pretty sure they'll need a stroller on days we'll be in the park for long periods. They're kind of too big for our strollers at home, and lugging one around at the airport and on and off the shuttles, doesn't sound like much fun. Still, $15 a day seems like a lot, when I could buy a brand new stroller with what we could spend on ones at WDW. I like a discount anytime I can get one--10% or more sounds good. "More" sounds the best though!! :rotfl:

Thanks for the info!! That's a really nice stroller! Sure wish we would have had something like that on our trip. The umbrella stroller that we took was also made by Jeep, DD really didn't like it. She is more into the BIG luxury strollers. LOL!! She really doesn't put on weight especially when it starts getting nice outside and she's out running around.

Thanks again!!!

Another reason to bring your own stroller for a child that age, they simply don't fit in the rentals--they are too big.

We took our DS to WDW for the first time when he was 18 mos old. I'll admit, he was a pretty tall kid for his age. He did just fine in a rental stroller, even napping. Kids that age can sleep anywhere!!

For the really little ones, ones that can't sit up on their own, I agree that in no way should they be in a rental stroller.

But what really irritates me is the families with kids who can clearly walk for a ways (not all day, but back and forth to the bus) who bring their giant strollers on the bus. Then they complain because it is crowded and their little darlings have sit on laps because the stroller needs a seat. For those families, my plea is to PLEASE, PLEASE rent a stroller. Save all of us on the bus the hassle, including yourselves!!

Sorry, I'll get off the soapbox now.

I was all set to rent a double for my 4 year old and 9 months old -
then it dawned on me that at the hotel I wouldn't have one -
and that just won't due as my 4 year old was 2 last trip and he napped in it a lot, when we were hanging by the pool....

Thanks for the advice everyone. We have the Graco MetroLite - is that a good one to take?
