How often did you use your video camera? is it worth bringing and carrying around or is the regular camera a better idea.
I'd appreciate your opinion!

We brought 4 cameras! My digital, my husband brought one , we have a canon underwater camera and we brought my camcorder.
I took 3 cassettes of film in my camcorder. I have a mini Sony micro, fits in the palm of my hand! I definatly would take your camcorder. Its a trip of a lifetime for some of us!

I'd sooner stay home as to go without my cameras! I take 2 or 3 digital camcorders on the ship with me - it's like going fishing with only one pole; if it breaks, you're sunk. This month I expect to take 3.

So I am always carrying one around, and my wife and/or my son will film with another one at times too. Then I edit everything together after we get home and we end up with a great, comprehensive video from several points of view!!!

Last year we shot 15 hours of video... ;)

I love photos, but it's really great to have video of some of the special events and things you do on board and off. I will cherish it and I think my DS will later in life. It's also good blackmail for when they tell you you never took them anywhere or did anything for them.

We found that we took and used our camcorder on our first Disney Cruise, but not on our 2nd one. We did take our 35mm on the second and took lots of pictures. For our third cruise next May, we plan to take our new digital camera and, hopefully, our DD will have a new camera (on her wish list already) to take along. I always hate not taking the camcorder, though, cause you never know what you'll see that you missed the first couple of trips!!! TAKE IT! :p

with the moisture issue while on board. Each morning when I wanted to record as we entered the different ports and especially CC, the camera would not operate. It would tape for a few seconds it would turn off automatically. There would be a "moisture" message on the viewfinder. By mid-day, the moisture issue was solved but that didn't help me one bit as far as taping the critical other times.

I posted this problem long ago and someone suggested keeping the camera wrapped up in a towel... tightly. I always keep mine in the camera bag.

Don't know if your brand will do this, but keep it in mind in case it does.

Have a wonderful cruise!!!

On the moisture issue. I had a Sony Handycam digital camcorder about a year and a half old. Took it to belize and Yucatan and right in the middle of taping the thing froze! It was damaged by the humidity and unrepairable! I have since bought a new one and someone told me to save the little silicon packs that come in shoes and other stuff you but and pack some in with my cameras in thier cases. So far so good!

We saw the tip about the silicone things too. Put several of them in our camera case. Were able to use our camcorder in Grand Cayman & Cozumel with no problems at all. We kept the camera in the case until we were ready to use it.

Hope this helps.

for the great tip. Where can you purchase those silicon packs or should I just "save" them from shoe purchases?

:D :D

I don't know if you can just buy the silicone. Sure would be easier. We just saved some from things we bought. They put them in purses, shoes, etc. I think they even have them in aspirin bottles now.

I had the moisture problem too, but my camera survived. I found that when we were moving it was OK, but when we were in ports it had problems (inside was always alright). We have been on 3 cruises and we never took video until this last time. We love our video! But I only used the camera on the ship, I didn't want to drag it around with us when we went into ports. Being on the 7 days cruise I found I had time to tape AND by being on two other cruises I had an idea of what I wanted to tape (like the show that the kids are in the last day).

I am hoping my 'tape' helps me survive until our next cruise!

Be careful of the "downside" of some nice video....

My FIL loved what he saw on our video so much that he begged to come with us!! LOL!!!

It's really fun to look back at my video now that I'm really down to the final planning for my next trip (including FIL).

We had a little trouble with moisture, but not too much. I think that's because I kept the camera in my camera case inside my suitcase inside the closet (not by any great planning, just because that's where I always keep it so I don't forget it when I check out!
