After today's news about the foiled plot to bomb planes, I've lost all enthusiasm about my trip to WDW in 14 days time. All the excitement has been replaced with fear.

I don't give a hoot about being delayed, etc, I want security to be really tight, I don't want them to relax it by then.

I just want to be excited again, I should be doing my SDD in 5 days time but I don't want to! I hate being worried like this, I'm not the best flyer at the best of times, let alone now.

I'm sure there are more of you who have lost that spark today. Can anyone help to reassure us and bring back the magical feeling?

Oh hun you poor thing. Please dont worry about your upcoming trip.

It will be more safe than before to fly. We all should be thankful that they found out before it happened. This kind of reassures me at the same time that thier intelligence works. Thier will be so many new security checks it will be fine.

Just relax, watch some disney planning videos and keep reading trip reports. Try to stay focused on all the planning and remember once your there you will be so happy to be in the most magical place on earth. :wizard:

I am feeling very down today too, Disney D, as I'm sure many of us are. I am also a very nervous flyer so sympathise on that count too.

All I can tell you is that you will soon be in the most magical place on earth. You will have such an exciting holiday that chances are you won't want to come home. So let's all try spreading a little pixie dust today :wizard:

I don't enjoy flying either, I do it because it is the only way to get to WDW.

But i am telling myself it will be safer now than it would have been yesterday.

We leave next Saturday, the one thing is my kids are going to be bored on the flight, but for safety they will cope, and are old enough to understand. My DS is glued to bbcnews 24. Keeps sending me updates on msn at work.

10 days until ASMu :cool1: :Pinkbounc :) :sunny:

I know it is worrying but dont let it stop you from going to WDW.

And everyone is right the security will be better now then what it was yesterday.

So chin up and enjoy your trip, I look forward to hearing all about your trip when you come back :thumbsup2

We fly in 18 days time and I`m just so sorry for all those people who have had their plans disrupted.
I`m confident we`ll be OK when we go and like you, I`m just pleased for all this extra security.
We flew to the USA not long after 9/11 and security was unbelievable - they even detected the small blade in DD`s pencil sharpener!
So don`t worry - these terrorists want to unsettle us - I`m not going to let them win!

My trip is over 2 months away, but i wish it was sooner, security is so good at the moment, i try not to think about the flight, like others i dont like flying but i wouldnt let it stop me going anywhere.
The news has just made me think about the flight now, i just keep reminding myself what a great time i will have when i get there!
Dont worry the magic will be their & you may find you will appreciate it even more :)
Have a fantastic trip :)

No worries, friends... to be sure, we all have a better chance of dying on the I-4 or the 192 than we do of being blown up over the Atlantic!

So be of good cheer, all will be well.

Bill

I feel the same today. :guilty: ..All my enthusiasm has gone...I have dreamt about this trip and planned it for over 12 mths . As I only have 11 days left I had already started to be nervous of the flight...But I was keeping it in perspective. Now this...iam a bag of nerves.

Iam clinging to the fact that everyone keeps saying its the safest time to fly now...but is this really true? :confused3
Also was it American airlines that were targeted. I tell myself that TCD will be safe as not American...and a charter...But iam still so nervous.
Iam not just scared of the flight ..Iam scared of terrisiom inthe US too..Its just reminded me what a scary world we live in.

I'll be having a good look around the plane I know that....Hopefully it will be full of families.

1. Air travel has and will continue to be the safest form of transport.
2. There are sooooooooo many good things in Orlando to look forward to, please don't let this news get you down.
3. The security services are doing their very best to protect us from evil

Thanks everyone, you're all so lovely.

I feel much better now, still worried, but not as much. I know there are loads of you who feel the same as me today, so I send you all lots of :wizard: pixie dust.

I said a prayer today, something I haven't done in a while ! I feel kind of guilty for turning to God just cos I feel threatened ! :guilty:

Yes, it i true it is safer now thewn before, not only are all the security checks very tight, but also allpassagers will also be aware of what is going on around them and be more prepared to report anything suspitious. Increased awareness does make things much safer.

It does look like the American airline compnaies were targeted, but we do not know for sure. One thing I can tell you is that charter flughts are less of a risk as they require a package holiday to be booked, even if it is a fly drive; few seats are sold as flight only. Terrorists may know not to book the single tickets in order to avoid security alerts, but they are less likey to go for the package holidays, not only due to the booking aspects, but also due to the greater chance of delays etc making a co-ordinanted attack less feasable.

The exiciment will prob come back, today has been a bit of a shock, that should wear off and the ecitment wil come back.

So, what is it you are going to do on your first night there, where are you going to eat and sleep, and what about that first breakfast, we always go to Denny's first day.

This is almost the final straw for me. In the early hours of Wednesday morning, DH's grandfather died (we go to Orlando on Tuesday), the coroner has rushed everything through so that the funeral can be the day before we go, it nearly wasn't, there had to be a post mortem because of the 'SHipman' effect (DGF was almost 94!). Then we hear this about the airports. I'm not whinging, just want a little moral support from my friends here on the DIS, hopefully nothing else can go wrong.

Stitchsfan...Don't worry about wingeing...You are perfectly entitled to....I've woke up today...and am less scared more angry. How dare the terrorists interfere with our lifes in any way.
Iam angry about not being able to take any mags on board for the first time in my life...I understand why and respoect that..but Iam angry at the csum who did this to us all.
Iam angry that they have got inside my head and i will be feeling sick all the way over the atlantic.

You have had a stressful week already stitch....come here and sound off whenever you want :thumbsup2 ...And remember when you and your dh are in the magic kingdom and hear the music and see the castle...all that stress will melt away...it will be so worth getting on that plane. :sunny:

We live in a world of continuous threats, the names and groups have changed over the years from IRA to Al-Qaeda but you should never let these things stop you from living your life, doing what you want to do, and having a good time.

In an age of cynicism about politicians, world events... this is the time you need that spark of magic all the more. Its a type of magic that you can't really describe, its something you can only experience at Walt Disney World. What is more magical than walking down Main Street towards Cinderella's Castle, and seeing the Castle illuminated at night with stunning fireworks being set off above. Disney really is a magical, happy place to be and in times like these, we need it all the more.

Start looking forward to your holiday again!

Stichsfan, I can understand, it is so muc to cope with, but at least, depsite the extra checks and the shock of the news you know you will be safe trabvelling.

Sounds like the holiday will do you a lot of good and when you get there the things about the plans will be a distant memory.

You should be a councellor you know ! You've made me feel much better and you're right, it was a shock yesterday but today i'm seeing things differently.

If there are no delays we should be in Orlando late afternoon. We are picking the car up at the airport, just me and my daughter, hubby couldn't get the time off, then driving to Lake BV. We are planning to stock up with goodies at Walmart and maybe go to DTD for the Evening. Our first full day on Friday 25th August will be spent in the MK. :Pinkbounc

I'm so sorry to hear your bad news... DGF lived to a very good age, not many people live to be 94, bless his soul.

I feel more confident today and I hope you do too. Not long til you go now, I hope you can feel excited about it by the time you go. It's a shame you won't be there when I'm there, I fly out on the 24th. We could have met up and had a laugh at how silly we've been! :grouphug:

DIsney D thanks for the kind words (and everyone else too!) I'm beginning to feel a lot better about the whole thing and hey, 9 hours is only the same as a working day, I guess the time will pass.

Actually we will be there at the same time, we don't go home til the 29th, where are you staying.

I am sad that the persons who are so destructive have dampened your holidays.

That is what they mean to do. They want us to be in constant turmoil and fear.

Try to put on a game face and ride out the flight.

When you land you will see palm trees and soon you will see main street your smile will return and you will be some what healed.

Have a wonderful time to all who will be flying in the near future. I myself will be down in 49 short days but who's counting.

Deb
