Bring back Millennium Village

I enjoyed the MV, but it in no way seemed to be the quality of, nor was it intended to be, a permanent attraction. Personally, I'd like to a similar concept, done in several smaller kiosks or buildings, spread evenly around World Showcase, occupying the areas set aside for more countries for a one year period. It would be a good way to pre-test which countries may be a popular addition for a full sized, permanent exhibit.

*Sigh* I'm telling ya, it's gonna be Sweden.

It was such a positive experience for my kids. To get to meet so many people from all over the world, was amazing. They really spent alot of time while signing the passport too! My daughter still has hers and I suspect will keep it forever! pixiedust: :jumping1:

or are the crowds too much. I am thinking that we will be spending the day at the MK just walking around because it will be so crowded. Our biggest crowds before this were June and January 2, so I really don't know what to expect. :confused3

I really loved MV and the Tapestry of Nations parade. I miss them, too. Quite an experience!

I love Epcot but didn't get much out of Millenium Village. It seemed so crowded without much going on at the time I visited. I know I should probably expect the crowded part.

We miss it a lot as well. There was so much to see and do, and I loved the counter service food locations in the back (they had some GREAT offerings!)

It was nice to be able to visit so many unique countries and exhibits in that air conditioned building.
I have been to a few special events in the building since, and everytime I'm there I miss the old Millennium Village that was there before.

That's a great idea, Chuck!

I know MV was never inteded to be a permenant addition, but if they could keep things like the Hand & the Hat, why can't they keep something cool like MV? :confused3

Hey, at least they didn't keep the Pepto Castle.

Absence makes the heart grow fonder, and familiarity breeds contempt. The Millenium Village was nice, but it presented no more comprehensive view of the world than the World Showcase itself does. The attractions within the Village were okay, but weren't such that they would have withstood the test of time. If the Village was still open, a great number of recurring guests would be continually expressing their disappointment about them.

I like it when Disney does something special -- coming up with a new idea, something that we'll feel privileged to have had the opportunity to have enjoyed while it was available.

Disney uses the Millenium Village quite often. I am sure they are getting good use of the space, it just isn't open to the public on a daily basis.

Bicker, I understand what you mean. That is why MV for me was a welcome change from the 'fixed' countries in WS (not that I've had the pleasure of visiting too often mind you, and not that I am fed up with WS). I think you are right in saying that people would eventually start to get disenchanted with a fixed MV. Let's face it, Disney are constantly updating / changing attractions in the other parks to ensure this doesn't happen.

Maybe they ought to do the same with WS? Even if they keep the 'fixed' countries I think they ought to have a number of other countries represented - maybe rotating some or all of them on a yearly basis? Maybe in locations scattered around the world?

I think even that's too repetitive. Rather, I could see doing that sort of thing, but not doing it "again" in the World Showcase (at least not for a while). So, perhaps utilize a good bit of "Communicore" for some temporary, neat-o, ad hoc attractions that are right for FutureWorld (sponsored by science foundations, NASA, companies, etc., instead of countries). Or have a year where they have temporary, neat-o, ad hoc attractions on D-MGM (though that one is a bit tougher, because many of the ad hoc sponsors would necessarily be direct Disney competitors -- okay strike that.)

Even though I love Epcot's World Showcase, I sometimes think it gives a limited view of the many countries and cultures around the world. Looking back at my journal, photos and park guides from our 2000 trip to WDW and have been thinking what a great idea the Millennium Village was. Although it was small and compact, it did give you a chance to meet people from many more countries, try things out, marvel at some fantastic craftsmanship, etc.

I think Disney should bring it back. What do you think? :)

I miss it too. It brought so much more to Epcot. I loved talking to all the people. They should bring it back.

Well I'm going to violently ;) disagree with this because I still miss MV - hence the thread

But I agree that Disney could make better use of the other areas such as Communicore / Innoventions in the way you suggest.
I'm not sure that being non-Disney is a complete bar from DS either - think of: Star Tours, Indiana Jones, Tower of Terror, Muppet 3D, Great Movie Ride

Nice idea! :sunny:
