bring baby backpack carrier for parks??

Hello. I'm making our first trip in may and am considering bringing our kelty metal frame baby carrier for our 2 yr old . The carrier holds up to 45lbs and you can set it down on the ground. Has anyone brought one to the park?? Do you think its a good idea? My husband is a hiker so he insists he wont get tired carrying her, I'll probably be pushing my 5 yr old in an umbrella stroller since he is destined to get tired of walking. Thanks in advance!

We have used a backpack carrier twice in Disney World and found it to be really helpful...especially for kids who dont do well in strollers for a long period of time. We were just there last week with our 3 year old and our 14 month old. We brought 2 umbrella strollers and the backpack carrier. My DH never got tired of wearing it. I guess it would depend on the time of year you are gonig too. If its going to be really hot, the bp might get to be too much. I say if you have the space for it, bring it. My oldest hated being in a stroller so when we brought her when she was only 1, we never even used the stroller....back pack carrier only. have fun what ever you decide.

we're taking our babyhawk and freehand mei tai carriers but also a double stroller, we're babywearers and so we're used to carrying the kids long hours, walking (no car) however we weren't too sure about how the kids will deal in the heat (we're in the uk so not used to it)

Im bringing my stroller and my Ergo, I will wheel the stroller up to the plane then they take it and stor it till we lwnd and have it waiting for me on exit of the plane.
I will have the Ergi in the carry on as well incase my DD gets tired, and I will bring it to the parks as well as she likes to be carried.

I found our Kelty backpack carrier to be too bulky in tight spaces and crowds to use at WDW. We never took it there, but used it in an amusement park situation that was less crowded and more spacious, where we determined that it wouldn't work for WDW. I always felt as if I were banging into people and things with the big frame carrier in a situation other than hiking, etc....

We also used a combination of stroller and soft child carrier (I've used various slings, a tie wrap, and a BabyTrekker which is similar to the Ergo) at WDW. We like having the stroller in which to put our stuff when the child isn't using it, plus the soft carriers are much more compact to tote with you. Our kids are a bit farther apart in age, but for a while we would bring 2 umbrella strollers or rent a double in the parks. 2 umbrella strollers isn't bad because if you don't need one you can either just leave it parked somewhere or fold it and carry it in the other stroller's basket or on top of the canopy (though one of ours is a Maclaren so its a bit more stable and has the storage room to handle it).

Also, there isn't necessarily room to cart the backpack on rides in all cases but neither is there a place you could "park" it.

Those Kelty packs are nice and comfortable, but I really wouldn't use one at WDW. My younger ones mostly walked or used the soft carrier, then they generally preferred a stroller after the age of 3yo or so.

I would think that a backpack carrier would be a pain to take on the rides with you. You would always have to take the child out of it to get on the rides and then hold the carrier. With a front/side carrier, you could just wear your child on the rides.

We were actually able to fit it in our large suitcase, but you could just check it. We didnt gate check it only because we were already bring car seats on the plane and had strollers to gate check. Getting through security with all that stuff, plus carry ons is a pain. Check whatever you wont need in either airports. Good luck. I was really nervous about how my kids would do on the flight, and they were so great on both flights. It makes me want to go again!

I would use a cloth carrier but my dd is 2 and she's too big for those kinds. I plan on bringing an umbrella stroller so I guess I could just leave it with the umbrella stroller while we ride the ride correct? There is a place to leave strollers when you get on a ride ?

Age 2 isn't too old for cloth carriers- you just need to find the right sort something like an ergo, beco or mei tai would serve just fine! (in fact DH can carry our 40lb+ 5 year old son in my one mei tai on his back... i however can't lift him ) we're taking ours and our intended "Carry-ees" are our 4 year old daughter (who is v.petite and around 32lb?) and 18 month old son (who is around 30lb and tall)

I have a sutemi pack and it has been tested up to 100lbs ive carried a 35 lb child around in it with no problems, and it can be a backpack carrier, a front carrier, or a hip carrier.

I had no idea they made those?! I thought you were referring to the cloth ones like bjorn. Anyway, I guess I'll probably just take our kelty pack and stick it on the umbrella stroller when riding the ride. Very cool though , I'll have to get one of those for my next baby
