Here's my tale:

I tried on a 5/6 at one store, same brand, tad different style, strapless gown. I tried on the 9/10 also, the 5/6 a little tight in the bust area, (but I did have it zipped up, just hard to breath), but fit wonderfully in the waist and hips ect. The 9/10 was a tad too big, would've gotten the 7/8.

Then at another store. Different dress but very similar, same brand, strapless, except that the back was a pull string draw string type look with no zippers. The 10 is too big, bigger then the 9/10 in the other dress. There are no other sizes to try on and this is the dress we are going to order, and the size charts are a joke! Anyway, I can pull at the waist to see what the dress would look like and get a hand of fabric, but then the bust doesn't have as much left over fabric and could be fit into an 8, so my question is this, do I get the 6 (going off of the 5/6 above) because it has the drawstring back and can be loosened the .5 inch I need to breath or get the 8 (like I was in the other dress) and then get alterations to fit my waist. These are also strapless and I have heard that it is nice to have it fit everywhere nicely to hold the dress up, Anyone ever had this before, stuck between two sizes?

Thanks for any advice!!!

I think I would get the larger size, just to be on the safe side. It's much easier to have things taken in than let out. Plus, you wouldn't want to not be able to breath easily. Hope this helps! :)

The dress shop definitely needs to measure you! Sizes and styles vary within the same manufacturer. I'd definitely go with the bigger size. They can always do alterations. When I bought my wedding gown waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay in advance of the actual day, (I bought it in another state and it was shipped to my home) I took it to the shop where I got my girls' gowns. They cut my gown down 4 sizes! It came out great.

I agree... get the size bigger. Just in case if anything else. It is easy to take in a dress but even with a draw string back, you might want the extra fabric just to be on the safe side. Also even though it is the same brand name, I wouldn't base the size you think you ought to get off of the other dress. Good luck.

I think they make bridal dresses (both the bridal gowns and the bridesmaid's dresses) so that they'll have to be altered on 95% of the people who wear them. Order the bigger size since it's a lot easier to have it taken in than let out.

I would go bigger. They can always cut off material, but they can't add any!!!!!!!

This is all part of a huge plot just to frustrate and confuse us...
