I was thinking about have all of my bridesmaids (I have 1 MOH and 3 Bridesmaids) choose their own dress as long as it is floor length, satin and lilac. Has anyone done this (post pics!)? Do you think it would look good?

Here are the dresses that they can pick from...

I also really like this dress but would it look bad for one of them to be in a shorter dress?

I have been to a wedding where this was done, and I thought it looked GREAT. I much prefer it to the totally matching bridesmaid look. Plus, it allows each person to pick a dress that flatters her best.

I would stick with all gowns of one length, though. I do think it would look better.

A friend of mine did that. I think it'll look great! As far as the short dress goes, that is my bridesmaid's dress, only mine is persimmon. I don't think it would look out of place as long as it's the same color. Then again I am a little biased. :)

Hey BridetoBe, I am having my girls do the same thing. I picked the designer (Alfred Angelo) and the color (peach fizz), and I told them they could pick out any short dress they want. My 3 BMs and I went last week (MOH couldn't be there), and wouldn't you know, they all chose the same one :rotfl:

I agree, keep them all one length. BTW, I love your color!

I am doing the same exact thing. I chose the designer Bill Levkoff. I said all of the dresses must be the same material (eurpean satin) length (floor) and color (euro pink) So far 3 out of the five have chosen:

***the color in the pics are a little off but they will all be the same...closest to the second dress****

I think my other bridesmaid may be wearing this:

and my jr bridesmaid this:

The girls are all so happy. They love that they can really love the dress and wear it again...plus it all coordinates so it looks good. To tie the look together they will all have their hair up and I am providing matching necklaces and earrings. They will all also carry the same flowers.

I went to a wedding once where the couple had met in the Carribbean -- she sent each of her bridesmaids a photo of the beach where they met and told them to find something summery and tea length or longer that matched the water -- each dress was a little bit different in color and style, but each one suited the wearer perfectly -- together they really did look like the colors of the ocean.

My friend did that.
she let us pick our own dresses as long as they were purple.
I made mine and unfortunantly didnt know that all the bridesmaids were super skinny so I felt totaly fat.
At least i got to walk down the isle with a cute guy in a kilt hehehe
Here pics.

:thumbsup2 I think it's a really good idea to have your bridesmaids pick which style (same color) of dress to wear. Not everyone looks good in the same type of dress. This way they can choose something that looks nice for their body type, and something they will enjoy wearing... and hopefully be able to wear again some day.

I also think it is a great idea and agree that you should have them all be long.
I am in a wedding in December and we are all wearing different red dresses (In fact I am wearing the 3rd Bill Levkoff dress that Pixie08 posted above).
It worked out well because we are all different ages and sizes.

Oh and Error Kitten, I think you look great. I can't believe you made that dress, it is really nice. I can hardly sew on a button.

PrincessMeganKatie- that is such a gorgeous dress...the pictures do not do it justice! It looked beautiful and so flattering on my bM...you are going to look GREAT.

Thanks so much for everyones responses...I think I will have my bridemaids pick their own dress as long as they are all satin/floor length/lilac. Either that or they will wear the 5th dress I posted...so far that is the one that they all like.

Thanks :)
