My wedding is still 9 months away, but my mom keeps asking me what Im going to do with my dogs since EVERYONE we know will be coming to our wedding.

Due to health reasons, my dogs can't be kenneled, which leaves me so clueless and stressed over what to do!!

Has anyone else been in this situation and can offer advice?

So far I'm thinking of flying them down with us and finding a sitting service in Orlando where they don't kennel them and we can visit almost everyday?

That could be stressful so then I was thinking of hiring someone to stay at our house with them while we are away, but I'm not sure how comfortable I feel about doing this???

Has anyone called any of the Disney hotels and asked if they could pay extra to bring their pets?

ARGH!

My dog got very stressed in the Vet's Kennel one year and I found a pet sitter.

She takes the dog for walks several times a day and since our dog is still in her home, she seems to do so much better.

My sitter also turns on the porch light at night, brings up the paper and turns on a light inside the house so it doesn't appear that we are away. She lives a few houses down from us and watches the house too. She always calls if she see something out of place (my mothers call has been in the driveway this week) so it is nice to have someone looking out for the house.

I like her so much she comes 2x a week to take the dog out for a walk while we are at work

Disney does have a kennel, but since you said that they cannot be in a kennel, what you should do is maybe call them and explain your situation and maybe they might have some suggestions for you. My daughter had to take her dog there the night of her wedding and we picked him up the next morning. It would be worth a try to find out what other options you might have available to you.

i think the kennel at Disney only offers boarding..you must come and walk them and feed them a few times a day.
Check out the pet sitter site..I am sure there is someone who will have several references. My sister always has someone STAY at her house with her pets, but that isn't comfortable for me..

My daughter brought his food and even some of his toys to play with and they fed him and took him outside several times during his stay. You don't have to be there to do those things that is what you are paying them for. We picked him up the next morning and the place was very clean and very secure.

Do you have a vet school or vet tech program near you? I bet they would ahve students that are pet friendly that could sit for you. Maybe try askinh your Vet for a recommendation, they prob have some trustworthy employees they could recommend? I wouldnt go with someone unless they come recommended from someone you know who has used them, or they are somoene you know.

Any neighbors you are friends with? It wouold be easy for them since they live right next door?

there are lots of vets who take animals as boarders - if their medical needs cant be met by a vet, i dunno who could take care of them!!

this must be new because when my sister used the kennel at the TTC a few years ago, they told her she had to come and walk the dog and feed it..I never took our dog because I was afraid if I wasn't able to the kennel, I would get in trouble:laughing:

The kennels are now run by Best Friend's or something like that, and you no longer have to walk your dog at TTC or Ft. Wilderness. I don't know about the other parks.

I'd def check with your vet and they might know some pet sitters.

I have done house sitting before at my house and at friends houses as well. I would see if you could find any friends that you trust or a pet sitter company that could come to your home. I think that traveling for a pet can be a bit stressful as well so I would keep that in mind! Good Luck! :goodvibes

My sister boarded her dog at a really nice vet. They had private dog rooms with web cams so you could check on your dog. The room her dog in was pretty large, and they had someone come in 3x a day to play with him. You should look to see if anywhere around you has a similar service.

Get a petsitter for your home (someone mentioned petsit.com as a good place to start, which it is).

We have 2 housecats which I would NEVER bring to a kennel/vet for boarding - pets are much more comfortable in their own environment even if they aren't getting as much 'human time' as they are accustomed to.

What I would do is find around 4 petsitters in your area. Contact them by email (include the dates when you'll be gone so they can check calendars before going any further), give them the brief rundown about your dogs and give them no more than 2 days to respond. Obviously, you can include the approximate but not exact location of your home (for example, on Rte 70 before the Medford line) so they will also know if it works for their daily schedule.

Anyway....probably out of the 4, 2 or 3 will respond. Make appointments for them to come to the house (I'd advise scheduling all of them within the same week) and see how the dogs react to them. You'll know which one is the *best* fit for your family.

Make sure they are licensed/bonded (they will proudly tell you if they are) and you can also ask for references. Like another poster said, they also will check out your house while you are away and make sure everything is in order.

Good luck!

ITA with Ashley. When I go down for my PS my two cats, and two dogs will be at home with one of my best friends. I would recommend this as the way to go if you have a friend you trust!

I can really help! My parents and I usually drive to Orlando from Iowa and they have brought with us one of their beagles the past couple of times. We always take their dogs to the Bass Pet Motel which is only a little bit away from Disney (maybe 10-15 minutes...and very easy to find).

This last time they brought their newest Beagle that came from a very abusive home and, as a result, only has three legs. The owner, Patty, took their Lucie under her wing and let Lucie sleep with her at her house....which is on the same property as the dog kennel. Patty does this on a regular basis...in fact the nights that Lucie slept at Patty's house, there were 12 other dogs with her! Patty is an absolute dog lover and really understands dogs and people's needs. I would HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend her.

She just built a new facility that is amazing. The dogs are free to roam over a lot of space and they get special "group time" and one-on-one time. Her prices are really reasonable too. Here is her website:

Also, Patty knows my family personally...so if you have any questions, please let me know.

good luck! My dogs are like my children, so I know how you feel.

I don't know if you plan on visiting Universal any or not, but just FYI, their three resorts (very nice resorts, I might add) allow dogs.
