I did a "home spa" theme for one friend that was a really fun party. I found some "do-it yourself" spa recipies and books and then picked a few that seemed reasonable for us to do. Everyone brought their own robes and slippers, and I provided towels, headbands, and the supplies for making our own spa stuff. We had foot scrubs and soaks, facial ingredients, hand scrubs, and manicure and pedicure supplies. We also had index cards, stickers, ribbon and markers for people to write down their favorite recipes and decorate the cards to take home. I had candles out everywhere, I borrowed a table-top fountain, put out flowers everywhere (some in vases, some floating), and had quiet, relaxing music playing. We served lots of fresh fruit, veggies, smoothies, teas, and chocolate. We used stemwear to serve water and smoothies as an extra "spa" touch. I still have those "home spa" books, and now I use them myself!
I've had to do games at several bridal showers, and here's a couple that can work with most themes:
"When I was single...but when I'm married...": We had typed up this sentence: "When (bride's name) was single she___________, but when she is married she_________________." Everyone filled in the blanks, then handed the papers back to me. We then cut the sentances in half, so they read "When (bride) was single she______________" on one piece of paper, and "but when she is married she _________________." was on the other. We then handed out random slips of paper so each person had a start and an end of a phrase, but they didn't necessarily go together. At one party we had one person read their new phrase before the bride opened a gift, and at another one we used it as a mixer to have people find the people who matched their fragments. So for example, someone wrote "When Carrie was single, she always had a clean house, but when she is married Todd will mess it up." Someone else wrote "When Carrie was single, she flirted with all the boys, but when she is married she will only flirt with Todd." When we split up the sentence, someone got to read "When Carrie was single, she flirted with all the boys, but when she is married Todd will mess it up." We cracked up!
