Brett Farve's crash and burn

There's alot of woman interviewed here and leaving lots of comments on local message boards , that yes they are sorry that Ben is allegedly engaged.

Given what we know of his character thus far, I can't see why that would really put a damper on their hopes.

but pretty much only because he's playing good football and if he leads the eagles any where close to super bowl territory he will start getting more and more endorsements. Unfortunately I think we tend to remember the "last" thing done.

...yup. look at what happened to Brad Womat last night on The Batchelor! :scared1:

You want real proof how short our memories our for bad behavior? There was a headline on MSN Sports for the last two days that read "Sorry Ladies, Steelers QB Reportedly Off The Market"

"Sorry Ladies"??? Are you serious???? :scared1:

That's what I thought yesterday when I heard, I don't know if I could date someone with his history. I do agree that it's long forgotten for most sports fans, the Steelers won their division and headed to the playoffs. Hopefully he realized he needed to stop womanizing and settle down.

Yes, I do think it has affected his legacy.

People have short memories, and will remember the LAST seasons he played more than his glory days.

I don't know. I think most Brett fans can and will separate his exploits on the field from his exploits off the field (such as they are) and will always see him as one of the greatest quarterbacks in the game.
History will remember Brett Favre for his skill on the football field, not for his stupidity off of it.

I don't care about what any athlete does off of the field. His texts and photos don't change any of his stats and that is really all that matters as far as his NFL legacy is concerned.

I didn't say everyone had. There will never be a time where everyone forgets what Vick did. Or what Tiger did. Or what Brett did. But their legacies will be how they performed on the field. That asterisk after their name that tells of their personal lives? Just a little blip of punctuation.

OJ Simpson was agruably a much better player than Brett Favre when he was in his prime.
But who really thinks of that whenever his name comes up?
No, it is always that "askerisk" that OJ will be remembered for.

I disagree. I think he will be remembered for his records and for the fun he brought to the game. The discussion might end with "his last seasons were fraught with problems", but people will remember the Packer years far more than they will the Jets / Viking years. For many people Brett Favre will always be a Green Bay Packer. People may have short memories, but fans also tend to forget the parts they want to forget and only remember the glory days. Does anyone still talk about Brett's vicodin addiction or his time in rehab?

True. But OJ was on trial for murder, not to mention that infamous slow SUV crawl through LA. After which he became a media monger doing interviews, reality shows and the like.

Brett is having some text messaging issues with women and is highly UNlikely to become a media darling, based on how little he enjoys talking to the press. I don't see the two things as even remotely comparable.

:earsboy:

Double homicide is a bit more extreme than sending inappropriate texts. Murder and child molestation are on a different plane than sending texts or even dog fighting IMO.

Which he was acquitted of. But who really remembers that?

His legacy was tarnished when he decided to stick it to the Packers by "retiring" from the Jets and signing with the Vikings.

Wait, I just saw this morning that the NFL AND the Jets acquitted him saying their was no evidence.

I think everyone. I don't know of anyone who recalls the crime but not the verdict. But I get your point. People remember that he was tried for murder first and the fact that he was aquitted later.

Still ... going on trial for murder of your ex-wife is a tad bigger than sending an inappropriate text to a masseuse. Twenty years from now, I can see people still associating OJ with the murder. It happened well after he left the NFL, and the spectacle totally (IMO) overshadowed his earlier career. Twenty years from now, I don't really anticipate people saying, "Oh ... Brett Favre. Right. He was that quarterback who sent all the text messages."

I know this is altogether different, but has he denied it yet? From the few snippets I've seen he's been dodgy.

There are ways to get to the bottom of it. I mentioned up thread they could summon the phone records if they really wanted to know if he sent the texts. But they probably don't want to know.

Dodgy or innocent until proven guilty? I'd tell the NFL god-wannabes to kiss off too.

This all went down in 2008. If the women saved the supposed texts then there be no need. Plus I don't think the phone companies keep copies of texts or text content.

Not everyone has forgotten what a piece of garbage Vick is. The NFL sure has...:sad2:

No kidding.

:sad2:

Wonder how the folks who rescued those dogs, rehabilitated those dogs, and adopted those dogs feel when they seem him getting congratulating phone calls from the president. Sickening.

He should have just retired the first time he said he was going to. I'm just glad the Packers don't have to deal with him anymore. 12>4 anyway. ;)

It remains to be seen. But if he were innocent, seems like he would deny. I don't know.

I thought I've read about a case here and there about text transmissions being on record.

He admitted sending the texts to Sterger.

But according to Roger Goodell, sexually harassing a co-worker is a ok.

What a joke the NFL leadership has become. :sad2:
