Some of you may remember that I recently had a scare with this myself. Everything turned out okay, but now my mom was just diagnosed with breast cancer. She is scheduled to have a lumpectomy next week. The doctor did tell her that she will need radiation, but he's not sure about chemo yet.

For those of you who have gone through this or know someone who has, what can you tell me that I really need to know or that could be helpful?

What was she exactly diagnosed with? What is her age?

I was recently diagnosed with DCIS (Ductal Carcinoma In-Stitu). It is the earliest stage, non-invasive and most treatable. I am very lucky.

Did she have a stereotactic biopsy?

We don't know what stage she is yet. He said he won't know until she has the lumpectomy and he gets the results back. She's 65yo. He did an ultrasound and biopsy right in his office this past Monday. She has to have a nuclear injection(?) done next week. Unfortunately I wasn't at the appt with her today, so I'm only going by what she told me.

Hmmmm. I don't know what that could be. They told me immediately what my type was but would not know if it was invasive or not, until the biopsy came back after the lumpectomy.

The fact that she is 65 and may not need chemo is a good sign.

Thank you. They might have told her what kind it is. She called me several times today and told me things in bits and pieces. My stepdad actually remembered more than she did. She's having a hard time with it. Best wishes to you, too. :goodvibes

No advice or knowledge to share SillyMe, just lots of hugs and prayer for you and your family!

:grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:

:grouphug: Hugs for you. Just be there for her and supportive, listen to her and let her talk. She is probably scared to death. I will say a prayer for her and you too as you walk through this with her.

Good wishes and prayers fro your mom, SM. Hoping all goes well. Marie just visited her oncologist yesterday, clean bill of health, 7 plus years. She had a Stage III cancer, lumpectomy, chemo and radiation. She is doing fine.

As for what to do, what to know....just being there for mom means so much, making yourself available. Marie's experience with the radiation part, as well as other women I know of, was one of being very tired. It made her really drained afterwards. Make sure you, she, stepdad ask ALL the questions, and importantly, the answers, to the questions. Write them down before a visit, so as to not forget any, it is so easy to do that and only ask 2 of the 6 you had.

Do make sure to stop by the Breast Cancer Survivors thread here on the CB, what a wonderful group of ladies there are there, all with good knowledge to pass on, all for the asking. And also a great place to seek comfort, so important.

Again, my best wishes and prayers for your mom. Someday this darn disease that has touched so many will be overcome.

You know we love you Silly!! We will always be here for you. My Mom had a total masectomy many years ago. I am talking about over 15 years ago,. She has more energy and fight till this day than I have. :grouphug: You inspire me sister. It will be a roller coaster ride but we will never leave you alone ;)

Go visit all my GAGTWA sistas on the Dis BC thread, like Dan and Laurajean suggested. They helped me out immensely when I had a BC scare ... and they'll help you out, too! Hugs, prayers & pixie dust to you and your family!!

Warmly,

Daxx's Wife

I can't offer advice but I just said a prayer for your mother, that her treatments are easy and 100% effective.
