Breast Augmentation

My nieghbor had it done about 4 yrs. ago. She has 2 kids and the pregnancies took a toll on her "girls". She was about your size and she went to a D. Her original plan was to go to a C, but the doc said to go as big as she was comfortable since it was pretty much a one shot deal. It was quite drastic, but we got used to seeing her that way quickly. I think they are a bit big for her frame (she's about 5'6" and 110lbs - very think - workout queen).

She is thrilled with them and would certainly do it again!

My sister had it done about five years ago. Hers came out looking decidedly...walleyed. :sad2: One pointed up and to the left and the other pointed kinda down. She has had several procedures to fix them since, and they still don't look any better.

She also paid about $5K (in Florida, where many things are cheaper) at first.

If you get it done for your self-esteem, make sure you'll still be happy with you if the procedure doesn't work out.

I have had mine for 8 years and I truly enjoy having them.

I agree that this is not a budget shopping item. Don't go with the most expensive either under false belief that more expensive is better.

Do your research, but set up initial consultations with at least three plastic surgeons. Doing so let's you have the confidence that you picked the best doctor for the results that you want. You'll be surprised that doctor's have their own image of what a beautiful breast is and it may not be what you have in mind.

Consult, consult, consult! Ask them how many surgeries they have done. Ask them for before and after (but keep in mind that they will only take pictures of good results but at least it gives you an idea of what type of final result they are aiming for).

And don't worry about the judgmental people. To me, having a breast augmentation falls in line with taking care of your appearance. IMHO, it's more of a matter of not settling for less than what you personally want for yourself.

Best of luck to you.

I've had mine done and you wouldn't believe the self confidence it's given me. I've hated my b***s since I was a teenager. Let alone after 3 kids, heck I didn't even want my hubby to see me. Anyway, I did TONS of research, and if you want the name of a great website you can PM me and I'll give it to you.

I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE my b**bs now and feel they are worth every penny I spent.

One thing I can tell you...take in pictures of the size, shape, look etc of ones you like...and also ones you do NOT like. My surgeon worked really well with me telling me what could and couldn't work on my body and I just kept bringing in pictures showing him "this...not this...this...not this". And I ended up with EXACTLY what I wanted.

You'll have soooo many decisions...round implant, high profile, teardrop shape, etc...it's a lot of research to do for yourself.

My only one other suggestion is this...when in doubt go bigger. And no I'm not saying that for all the pervs out there...lol. Research shows that over 90% of women who have had augmentations wish they would have gone just slightly bigger when asked 1 year after their surgery. The reason for this is typically because a full C cup in real b**bs are larger than a full cup of implants. So if you're contemplating between 2 comparable sizes...trust me on this one, go with the larger one.:thumbsup2 Best of luck!!

I do also agree to go larger then you think you want as well. I was so concerned everyone would just stare at my chest and think oh wow nice **** job but now I wish I had gone bigger. But seriously keep in mind at sometime in the future you will probably have to get the surgery done again. I am certainly not looking forward to that. But maybe this thread has spurred me on to get back out there and look and find some more consults.

It is a shame that people can't just be happy with the body God gave them..

For the OP, I am sure your husband loves, no matter what your cup size is.

Google up Shape of a Mother... I won't link it because it shows REAL women after they have been blessed with children and that might offend folks :sad1:

Well that was horrifying :scared1:! I don't the photos on that website would encourage any woman to not want to improve their post-pregnancy body. I plan to get my breasts augmented within the next year, three pregnancies and nursing four babies have done them in :guilty:. My mother, and two sisters have had theirs done, with positive results. I would research the surgeons in your area and go with the one you feel most comfortable with :).

I've had several cousins have the procedure done and all have been very happy. They all did go for the best surgeon they could find. I know they all spent in the region of $5k+ for their operations.

But instead, can I give you some of mine?

After 3 pregnancies, 6 years of nursing and approaching menopause, mine just keep getting BIGGER :sad2:. I'm a DD at this point. I'm actually thinking of going the other way and looking at a reduction.

I know people are saying go bigger than you think you want, but coming from a person who has extra large girls, I don't recommend going bigger than a C simply because clothing is designed to fit a womon who wears a C cup bra (the average size) so as instead of having clothes be too large you'll find everything is too small :headache:. I have to either go up a size or pin my shirts shut or else my shirts tend to pull and gap.

Everyone has to feel comfortable with their own body - if there is an improvement that is truly wanted - be it Botox, a breast reduction, a breast augmentation, etc - and a woman is willing to pay the financial costs, understands what is involved and will invest in the recovery times (which are lengthy for some surgeries), she should be able to do it without judgement. (In many instances, there are medical reasons for someone needing these surgical changes so that is one more thought)
Please remember that God has also given some very talented men & women in the medical field great plastic surgery skills for a reason! ;)

Do you HONESTLY think that God gave those people the talents to make their chests bigger? Seriously!?

I think it's more that HE gave the talents so that children with a cleft-palete could have their mouth fixed...that people that have been horribly burned can be fixed. I honestly do not feel that He gave someone that talent so that they could go under the knife JUST to give themselves a bit of self esteem.

Ladies...if your self esteem is so low that you are considering SURGERY to fix it....well...that's not the problem to begin with!

AND...this is a BUDGET BOARD...since when has PLASTIC SURGERY been a budget question?!

ahhh, remember the good old 80's? When the majority of womens chests were "real" and they didnt try to look like a barbie doll? Plastic Surgery should be used for people who really need it for medical reasons, not just to look like or have something that someone else has! Thats just my opinion.....I have 2 Sister In laws whos chests got larger in the last 2 years and they both went out and cheated on their husbands once they got their Confindence up. And men are ALWAYS staring at their chests, because it seems like that women who do get them bigger wear TIGHT shirts and let them hang out for the world to see. MOST OF THEM

I am just so surprised at how MANY women have had this procedure. For me, I would be worried about dying on the operating table and leaving my two children without a mother. Try to explain why mom died when they get older...:confused3

As for the implants themselves, they typically last 10 years on average. That means that over time, those $5000 implants really are costing a lot more. Not to mention the downtime and risks of having it done. As you get older, surgery is a lot harder on the body compared to a healthy 21 year old getting it done.

They cut into the muscle which freaks me out too.

I guess anything invasive really makes me think twice.

Keeping up with the Jones's is getting harder and harder nowadays..... ;)

I think I will keep my A cups, save that $20-30,000 for my kids college tuition instead.

Good luck to those choosing this. I definitely recommend at least 2 consults with board certified physicians.

This thread should definitely be on the COMMUNITY BOARD. There is nothing budget about this.

Love mine, and this is a fine topic for the budget board. Talk about money well spent !!!! Something that makes you happy every second of the day for years is a darn good way to use money. I see topics on purses, vacations, restaurants...all short lived. You live in your body everyday, every second. You should be happy w/ it. Confidence in yourself also translates to more money in the workplace. People respond to happy, up people...not judgemental downer types.
I agree w/ several of the PPs too...shop for an excellent surgeon, one whose judgement you trust, and go w/ his rec on sizes. They'll go w/ what is appropriate for your body type, personality, and profession.

I think it is up to the individual but I will say that you should really research complications that occur with them. Sure you will get a few pages of satisfied customers here but you really need to know every angle. Also- if something like a rupture does happen can you afford to fix that? It can't be healthy and safe to have a ruptured implant in you. Also many women's breasts encapsulate the implant so you need to be prepared for that possibility as well. Will you have the money to put new ones in after 10 or so years when they need to be replaced? Will your health be okay to have that surgery? Will it weird you out once it is done to have a foreign object in your body?
I think you need to be completely informed of both the good and the bad.
Good luck with whatever you decide.

I am getting my pair in September. I had breast cancer and had immediate reconstruction using my own muscle from my stomach. (free tummy tuck) But the chemo caused the tissue to die and they had to remove most of it. I thought I could live with being much smaller so I had the other reduced to match but now I can't even find bras to fit, I was reduced to about a 32AA. I wear stretch bras because I just don't feel comfortable without one. Having to wear one for almost 40 years made it feel like part of my body, I don't go without underpants I wouldn't go without a bra either.
I used to be a 38D so it is a big difference.
I recently lost 68 lbs so imagine the size now, my 12 year old neice is bigger.
I am going for a 36B, maybe a 36C. Nothing too drastic since I am wearing a size 6 now, but something to fill in my blouses.
My insurance is paying the entire amount so I am not hesitating, but if I had to pay I am sure I would live with what my reconstructive surgeon gave me in 2004.

I can totally understand getting them for this reason 100%

I am not going to direct this to any particular poster because the thread could become off topic.

There are many women who want an augmentation or a reduction or some other type of plastic surgery - and YES it is often medically appropriate for someone to have plastic surgery - there are women who are emotionally affected by what they perceive to be a part of their body that they would like to have improved. There are women who have had breast cancer and lost their breasts - and want to have plastic surgery for this reason. There is NOTHING wrong with that, either.

Thank goodness there are medical professionals with given skills that can be used for this purpose.

The only thing I agree with you on is the long term cost of the implants. Everything else is just your fear and judgemental attitude.

FWIW I only knew of one other woman who had it done. My mom got breast cancer and had a mastectomy so I decided since I had a risk of that I might as well be happy with my looks. I wasn't doing it to keep up with anyone or to get a man or keep a man. Now that I have had a rupture and other issues with getting it done again I am more clear on the things that are downsides that I just didnt want to hear at 21 years of age. People do have to realize that this is not a one shot deal and you don't know what your finances or health will be years down the line.

But your really do need to change your attitude or just scroll on by.

WOW...I don't know where you got that I was being judgmental. These are my opinions and you can't have them. the Op DID ask for opinions....everyone is entitled to one.

Okay, a few comments. First, for every paid plastic surgery procedure that gives plastic surgeons money to perform free procedures on the people for whom it is a necessity. Such as burn victims. Cleft lip/palate repairs are done by oral-maxilo-facial surgeons, and is covered by insurance.

It's funny that people talk about self esteem. So many things are done to improve our appearance. Hair color, make-up, dieting, etc. For those of you that think you should just allow nature to just take it's course, I wonder how many of you wear make-up or color your hair? There are people, Michael Jackson, that comes to mind, who are waaaaay around the bend about their personal appearance, but this is the exception. One pair of breasts does not make you an emotional cripple. Admittedly, surgery is more permanent, and has more dangers, but it still speaks to self esteem. I

The notion that someone would get implants and immediately start sleeping around because men pay attention to their chests is ridiculous. Again, this procedure has nothing to do with getting or keeping a man. My husbands opinion was "If this is something you really want." He could have cared less, one way or another. He likes them, but he is a butt man.

Again, I am "surgically enhanced." I would never fault anyone for getting implants, for whatever reason, but I don't understand why it is okay for someone who has had cancer to want to improve their appearance, and to take the risks to do so, but it is not okay for anyone else. For those of you in the "accept what "god" gave you camp, I would think you would say the same in that situation. (BTW...I TOTALLY disagree)

As foe what is or is not "budget" a lot can be said of other topics on this board. Vera Bradley/Coach purses, or vacations in general. Vacations are a luxury, too.

If you are happy and contented with your appearance as it is, then that is very good for you, but to judge others who are not, without actually knowing them is unfair.
