BREAKING NEWS: Star Tours!!!

My 13 year old may never speak to me again! :lol I just told him this. We came home from a week in DL yesterday. A week that included two torturous days of him seeing the cast members only preview going on for his favorite ride!

Poor guy. Of course, his father is taking him in December, so he's getting two trips to DL this year. Life ain't all that bad!

6/2 will be the last day of our visit, and it's also our son's 9th b-day. He loves Star Wars, so we're doing the Jedi Academy as his 1st choice of things to celebrate. It goes without saying that we would love to ride ST before we leave. My only hope is to be super super nice to every CM we encounter (which I would try to do anyway because it's the right thing to do) and to play up the birthday card.

If we don't get to ride it, no loss. It's only 5 minutes of fun out of 4 days :) We're also glad not to have to battle the crowds that will show up starting 6/3 .

i thought it was opening day today.. isnt it?

there were ppl lined up starting at around 12:00...

I know there was speculation a while ago that it would open today to match the WDW date, but then we got the June 3rd date instead. If they opened it today, it ends up matching up with WDW's after all.

Oh, how I wish I still lived in CA...I'd drop everything and be there within an hour to see it. :yoda::rotfl:

How exciting! My DH and DS just went on the ride and said it was awesome! Although we do have annual passes, we didn't receive any special email or anything. They were able to just get in line.

Are you sure or is it just AP holders doing the AP preview? Or the preview contest winners?

Disneyland News Live, Dateline Disneyland, Disneyland Gazette, Disneyland Today, and others have all confirmed via Twitter that Star Tours is currently (soft) opened to the public in Disneyland.

Well, that makes it a little anti-climactic to have won the AP contest to ride "first", doesn't it? I guess there's no real advantage of being a winner then, is there? Or...maybe the AP winners get a FastPass and the general public doesn't?

This is what I was just thinking......

Went today. Super crowded, especially in Tomorrowland. We left at 1 pm. The advantage of winning preview would be beating the crowds and lines. As I said, everything was extra crowded today. Must be a large mob at StarTours now.

DW, DS9, and I went after school today for the soft opening. Don't want to give away any spoilers, but I rode it twice and they were definitely two different experiences. We all really enjoyed the improvements. Tom (I'mTooExcitedToSleep) rode the WDW version this week, so I'm sure we'll be discussing Star Tours 2.0 in the Disneyland edition of the DIS Unplugged podcast. Show should go up in the middle of next week. We'll keep you posted...

Do you know when the contest winners stopped riding and it was soft opening to general guests?

I'm not sure exactly when the soft opening was opened to the public, but I got to the park just before 4pm and went straight to ST. First time through, the wait was about 50 min. Second time through at about 5pm, the wait was just over an hour. They are definitely still working out the kinks, as our Starspeeder broke down just before boarding and we had to be moved to another one.
