Breakfast

I have a green salad, no dressing, every morning for breakfast, with either a bowl of steel-cut oatmeal mixed with some nut butter (peanut butter or almond butter, usually), or an apple cut into slices and spread with nut butter. Along with that I have a glass of diluted juice or a cup of almond milk.

TP

Dry salad? That must be an aquired taste!

I usually do:

a breakfast sandwich- Whole wheat eng muffin, 1 egg + 1 white scrambled, 1 laughing cow lite cheese spread on the englsih muffin and a sprinkle of bacon bits.
Sometimes a side of tukey bacon or lite turkey sausage
or

oatmeal with brown sugar splenda blend

or

english muffin pizza - toast the whole wheat eng muffin, spread with sauce, sprinkle with 2% mexican shredded cheese and top with veggies. I toast he muffin to make it crunchy, then add the sauce cheese and topping and brown under the broiler for just a minute. I eat these for lunch sometimes too.

or

An EAS low carb protein shake and a bananna if in a hurry

Egg beaters (I like the southwestern flavor) with either a link of chicken sausage, Canadian bacon, or a slice of cheese and spinach.

I vary breakfast depending on how I feel and how much time I have.

My options include: fruit and spinach smoothie with linseeds
steel cut oats with stewed apple and rhubarb
fruit salad and a small hand full of nuts/seeds
homemade muesli

My muesli is a mix of oats, puffed millet, rolled quinoa, roasted nuts (almonds, macadamia, walnuts etc), small amounts of dried fruit, soy grits, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds and chia seeds. I make up a big batch for the family and it generally lasts a couple of weeks.

I tend to have muesli if I have a big day planned or had a very light dinner the night before and wake up hungry.

When I was at my worst, I would stop at McDonald's nearly every morning for a breakfast sandwich. I would always be hungry before lunch. If not hungry, "craving" something.

Now I have a toasted Thomas Bagel Thin (whole wheat) with Whipped Cream Cheese for breakfast. I was shocked how long it lasted in my system. I am almost never hungry before lunch now. And I don't feel those urges to start snacking because something sounds good.

On the weekends, sometimes I will have a Jimmy Deans Delight Breakfast Sandwich. Made in the microwave, very yummy and low cal.

This just goes to show how everyone is different. I can eat a breakfast sandwich from McDonalds and be ok until lunch, (I don't do that anymore, but I did) but if I eat a bagel with cream cheese(which I do love almost more than anything) I am dying for food 1 hour later. It just leaves my hungry. I wish it would fill me up like it does you.

I must have protein, any carbs for breakfast, even whole grains and I am hungry 2 hours later. My mom, anything other than cereal and milk and she was hungry 2 hours later.

OP, as you can see everyone is different, you may just have to try a few things and see what works for you.

I have one of the ninja machines for making smoothies. In mine I usually put some cucumber, banana, pineapple, apple, fresh Ginger, blueberries, celery, fresh spinach, plain yogurt, ice.
Iwill drink a tall smoothie and eat a hard boiled egg. This holds me over until lunch time.

Is that the name of the machine, "ninja"? I'm interested in getting something like that.

I just wanted to update what I posted earlier about the kind of oatmeal I ate for breakfast. I looked at the calories and :scared1:. I didn't know that the flax seed was 90 per tsp. I was using 2 tsps. Then the walnuts are 200 cals.. That is close to 400 cals alone! What was I thinking??!!

So I am re-vamping my oatmeal, thanks to this thread. I will still use the flax seed, but I think I'll stagger it and use less walnuts. Probably use truvia instead of chocolate chips.

I have lost weight, almost 10 lbs., but I've stalled. Now I see why!
:upsidedow

Thanks for the thread, OP. It made me look at my breakfast in a new light.

light.

Yes, the ninja. I saw it on an informercial a few times and then picked on up at SAMs club. It's amazing and easy to pack up when I travel.

I'll echo oatmeal.

I eat it just about everyday. I put 2 tsp. flax seed in it, a palm full of walnuts, and a palm full of chocolate chips. It keeps me full. I don't feel the need to snack before lunch. And I like it! It tastes rich like a big cheat, but it's healthy. :)

If I'm on the run I might grab an oatmeal w/fruit at McD's (without the sugar) or an egg mcmuffin.

I like steel cut oats. They seem to stick to your ribs a bit longer. I usually cook a large batch on Sun. AM and divide it into small containers to take to work. Steel cut oats have to cook for 1/2 hr. During the last 5-10 min of simmering I add dry fat free powdered milk for extra protein and vitamins, a bit of brown sugar and cinnamon for flavor. I also will a add few walnuts and cut up apple or mashed banana, or craisins, just before eating. I will dice the apple the night before and put them in the container with the oatmeal, pour a little milk on top of the apples. Covering them in milk keeps them from going brown. The milk keeps the oatmeal more creamy as it does absorb all the liquid overnight.

My other go to breakfast is Greek yogurt. It is very high in protein. Or I might have a slice of toast with low fat Better n Peanutbutter (Trader Joes) and then the yogurt and fruit later for a snack.

After working an early 6 am or earlier shift for many years I have tried to always have my breakfast ready the night before. Not getting up a minute earlier than I have to to prepare. :) I also have my coffee pot on a timer.

Thanks for passing that along. I had seen a blurb about preparing the oatmeal overnight and putting it in the fridge, but I didn't see the breakdown with the apples and milk on top. Makes sense. I'm going to try it!

I haven't tried steel cut oats. I have heard a lot about them, but just haven't tried it. No particular reason.
