For those of you staying without all the conveniences of home, how do you do breakfast in your room? What do you typically have? Do you usually do your own shopping, bring your own food, or have food delivered?

I'm the type where a bowl of cereal or oatmeal will hold me for a couple of hours, but not DH. So I'm trying to think creatively on what he can eat so we can save our meal credits for lunch and dinner ... and not get bored eating cereal for 5 days.

Any ideas, tips, thoughts, suggestions? Let's discuss! popcorn::

We usually drive, so with that in mind.....

ceral bars, protein bars, fruit(apple, bananas), even peanut butter/chocolate(nutella) sandwhiches.

We think for the short term, give everyone something to hold them for a couple of hours(2-3) than we get a snack, lunch is usually light also and than a snack, and than dinner is usually a little heavier. Of course hubby's portions are bigger than everyone elses;)

We always do a 10-11 hour drive..we usually pack up a box with poptarts, lil white powdered donuts, etc..we have actually brought a sandwich maker and bread /ham/cheese and made grilled cheese sandwiches for breakfast..easy and quick and ready to eat as each person is done dressing for the day...

If you add some protein (like peanut butter -- make a pbj, etc.) to your in-room breakfast it will carry you a bit longer. Hard-boiled eggs work well, too, but I'm not sure you can find them at WDW. Also, taking a cereal bar with you for a light snack will help you hold off until lunch time. :)

We have done breakfast in our room, and we did it every day of our first trip in 2009. We drive, so I brought protein bars, no-sugar peanut butter, whole wheat bread, cheese, apples, bananas, chocolate milk. I also brought hard boiled eggs for the first day. It was really inexpensive, I probably spent about $50-60 for breakfast for 4 for 6 days. I'm like your DH. If I had cereal or pop tarts in the room at 7:30 am, I would need another breakfast at rope drop. I need more protein and fiber to tide me over.

Oatmeal..lots of it. :) Use the coffee maker for hot water. It is cheap, packs well for the flight and ......did I mention, cheap. :)

We had a little fridge so we did yops, muffins and bananas. Add a few pieces of cheese and the kids were usually good until lunch. We did a grocery stop because part of our party had rented a car for a universal day. If we hadn't rented a car we were going to have groceries delivered.

Not high on the nutrition scale - but super high on the yummy scale - apple muffins from Perkins. Mmmmmm........

Perkins is in the Crossroads Shopping Center - a short cab ride or a long walk from Downtown Disney. :thumbsup2

We drive and stop off at a supermarket just before checking in. We bring tea bags and sugar with us (used to bring coffee and our own filters but won't now since the switch to pod-type coffee makers). We pick up milk, juice, cereal, bagels and cream cheese, muffins and fresh fruit. We also pick up chips or pretzel sticks, soda and water (but those are for snacking on later).

So much more convenient to have breakfast in the room while getting ready for the day than to hike all the way to the food court. We usually only do a CS breakfast at the resort 1 or 2 days out of our week.

Before DVC and had the mini fridge, we had stuff delivered. Breakfast included instant oatmeal (you can make the water hot in the coffee pot, just brew water), fruit, cereal, and yogurt. It was just a little something to fend off starvation before we'd hit the parks for a hot breakfast. Cold pizza was always a hit too. :thumbsup2

If I want breakfast in the room, I pick up something the day before from the resort CS, usually on my way back in for the night.

You could get a pastry, supplies for PB&J, a bagel and cream cheese, OJ, etc. If you're on the DDP, many of those items are snack credits.

Okay Limmer, I'll bite.

What are "yops"?

I've been to Canada a few times, and as far as I know I've never eaten a yop.

It's a yogurt drink from Yoplait :) You can find them in the states but they aren't very easy to find.

We did cereal either dry or with milk. I brought bowls, spoons, and stuff with us and just bought milk at the on site store. Paid too much for it but I was willing to just to save money down the road. We also had poptarts, granola bars, instant oatmeal and grits

We are not big breakfast eaters, especially when we first wake up. I knew that forcing us to eat at the resort before heading out to the parks would be a challenge so I came up with a plan that worked very well for us. Cheap, easy & fast.

At Walmart (at home), I picked up a variety 8-pack of small cereals (Cheerios, Trix, etc.) and I spent $1 on a 4-pack of cheap plastic bowls and brought 2 with the intention of tossing them when we were done. At the food court I grabbed 2 plastic spoons and bought a 1/2 gallon of milk at the resort store (less than $3).

In the mornings while one of us was in the shower, the other would eat cereal. We just washed out our bowls & spoons every morning and reused them. The food court did sell individual cereals in disposable bowls but I'm sure they cost much more than I paid by bringing them from home.

It worked really well for (the 2 of) us. It saved so much time not having to eat at the food court in the mornings since we always make rope drop. After a couple hours in the park we would eat lunch.

We fly, and on our one trip thus far, we shipped a box ahead of us with breakfast stuff in it. We sent oatmeal, granola bars, small boxes of cereal, peanut butter crackers, trail mix and dried fruit. I bought milk (and bowls & spoons which made a great souvenir) in the gift shop. Our kids had cereal pretty much every day, and DH & I would grab a granola bar & handful of fruit and eat it while waiting for the bus.

We are usually pretty early lunch eaters, so having a light breakfast worked out well for us.

Just FYI, the box we shipped also contained things like glow sticks and large bottles of sunscreen that wouldn't be very easy to pack. The box was just over 1 cubic foot and cost less than $15 to ship. Anything crushable went into a hard plastic container in the box, and we put breakables in it when we brought it back home. We put everything else in the box in ziplocks just in case.

We never sit for breakfast if trying to make rope drop. Simply too much time involved in doing so. Instead, we'll order from Garden Grocer, Muffins, Donuts, Bagels etc, OJ, Milk, Cereal and we're good to go.

Would rather use our FD credits on a nice lunch when we're looking for some downtime in the middle of the day.

We did bagels with peanut butter in the room. We thought about taking them to the food court to toast, but ended up deciding it was easier just to eat them soft. They lasted us until lunch--quick and easy, but filling!

I like this! I can put those in my carry on!

We drive and it seems like we take the whole pantry:) We take all sorts of snacks and we usually take cereal, muffins, bagels, yogurt, oatmeal, bananas and HB eggs for breakfast. We will also have breakfast at the resort a couple of days, so our DDs can have their Mickey waffles. Two kid and 1 adult breakfast is enough for the 4 of us and does not cost much.
