Hi everyone! I'm in need of some breakfast advice!

For our upcoming trip, we want to go to the Poly for breakfast before our day at MK. We have a reservation for Ohana, but are now considering replacing that with Kona Cafe because I've heard so many great things about it. We've never been to Kona, and we've been to Ohana, but only for dinner.

What would you do? We have no kids, but still like character meals :), although it's definitely not a necessity. The Ohana breakfast seems fun, but the food at Kona seems better.

Thanks!

You can't go wrong with either one so you have to look at the differences and similarities.

1. They are both at the poly and on the monorail so easy access to MK.
2. They are both sit down meals. However Ohana for breakfast has a tendency to be more crowded and a longer meal because of the character aspect.
3. The above mentioned characters. If you want to see lilo, stitch, mickey, and pluto together then this is your place. When we ate there stitch was fantastic. Really funny, goofy things to make you laugh.
4. Menu selection. Ohana is family style and while not a bad meal, not a five star meal either. Scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, homefries, and mickey waffles. They only give you one waffle each, but if you ask they will bring more. They also have the passion juice.
5.Tonga Toast-I love it, but you can't get it at Ohana. You have to go either to Kona or Captain Jack's (the quick service at Poly). Plus you have other selections for breakfast. Where Ohana is just the one meal.

I think that about sums it up. Hope it helps.

For breakfast, and you are looking for food quality, look to Kona. The food is sublime. For fun/characters, go to Ohana. The food at Kona kills the standardized breakfast at the character meal by far. Tonga Toast for sure!

Ohana breakfast menu items are routine and definitely not memorable. As pp mentioned you go to Ohana for the lively character interaction. You also will asked to get a photo taken, and they will ask you to buy it. My extended family spent a small fortune on pictures. After that meal was over, I needed a lapu lapu.

Another vote for kona especially for adults. If you are coffee drinkers, the press pot kona coffee is only at kona and it is the best coffee at Disney! There are also more choices on the kona menu.

Kona all the way! I love ohana for dinner but I dream about the pineapple macadamian pancakes at kona!

If you want good food, go to Kona.

If you want lackluster food with great character interaction in a fun atmosphere, go to 'Ohana.

If it were me, I'd go with Kona, because I like to get my characters in at places were the food is also worth going for (like Crystal Palace breakfast). I like characters meals, but the character meetings aren't important enough to me to excuse food that's just ok.

I'd vote for Kona! The food and service were both fantastic there. You can get awesome dishes like Pineapple Macadamia Pancakes, The Samoan (eggs benedict over pulled pork hash) and Tonga Toast. Yum, yum!! Just know that if you get the Big Kahuna (a bunch of breakfast things like eggs, pancakes, meat, etc), you won't get the really good macadamia pancake batter that comes with the actual order of pineapple macadamia pancakes and it's highly worth it to get that!:thumbsup2

They are both great but for a more relaxing, bigger menu meal I would go with Kona...that is our favorite!

BTW, you can order a pressed pot of coffee at Ohana, we have done it before

WOW! Thank you SO much everyone! Now I really want some of those macademia pancakes and tonga toast at Kona! :rotfl:

Another thing we have to consider is how to get there from our resort. I know cab is always an option, but we were really hoping to avoid that. Our current reservation is for Ohana at 10:30am (no other time available). While this seems way too late for me, it at least allows us to get on a MK bus and hop on the monorail to get to breakfast. On the same day, the latest time available at Kona is 8:10am. I'm fine with going that early, but will the MK buses be running early enough for us to get there by our appt time? Anybody know how early the buses start running before the parks open :confused3 I've been to DW a billion times...I should know this by now!!

Update: I just found a slightly later reservation for that morning...8:35am. Think the MK buses will be running by 8ish on a Saturday? I wouldn't want to be too late to our reservation! Ahhh based on all your comments, now I really want Kona! :worship:

Sounds like you've made up your mind about the restaurant. As far as the bus, you should be fine with the 8:10 reservation. We've had luck getting the bus driver to drop us off at the Poly.
We were staying at POFQ and took the MK bus. The bus was nearly empty and we told the driver exactly where we were going. He cut through the TTC lot and dropped us at the front doors of the Poly. This was in June, 2011.
