If I have a reservation at 7:00 and the park opens at 7 will I be allowed in the park a few minutes early to get to the restaurant?

Probably not. Are you sure your reservation isn't for 7:10? Generally the first reservation is for 10 minutes after the park opens.

I've been told that there is a special gate for people with the first reservation, so you don't have to wait in a long line to get into the park.

We had a reservation for 10 minutes after MM/EE opening.
We were instructed to go to the far gates on the left (closes to DTD) and our names would be check on a list.
They let us in right when the parks opened.

This was our experience also. The first seating was 10 minutes after MM opening and we went in a separate gate and were let in at park opening.

Do you need to have an MM/EE entitlement to get in for a reservation during MM/EE? I have admission to the park (premier passport), but not an MM/EE entitlement.

No. As long as you have the reservation they will have you on the list. Then they let you in through a specially marked gate for breakfast.

I had reservations this past June for one of the first openings. I knew about the separate entrance, but there was no list of names. They wanted a confirmation number that also showed the date and time of the reservation. I was not prepared with that information and it took a while for me to find it on my phone. Luckily, I arrived early because we barely made our reservation.

We were first in line for our 710am reservation for Plaza inn last week. This gate is closest to DTD for reference:)

Thank you eatcherheartout and Astylla. Both your posts are very helpful for first timers like me!

Another hint from me. Even though the first reservations are for 7:10, they will let you in the character breakfast entrance right at 7 when they let everyone else in for MM. You can go right to the Plaza at 7 and they will seat you. I Love being the one of the first ones in. Lots of character interaction since it fills slowly and they don't have a lot of table to go to for a while. Plus, we are done before 8 and can get out and get to one of the ropes for the lands that aren't open during MM and get going on our riding! We usually pick up an Indy FP then can go ride BTMRR a couple times before there is any line.

I agree with this. We were let in right away after the family of the day opened DL. Our interactions were amazing and were one of 3 groups for at least 15 to 20 minutes so characters came around quickly and often. Even being two adults we were interacted with very much, it was awesome. The best part getting there early is by midday you can get so much done, take an early midday break and come back later completely refreshed.

We used this day to get in line for Peter Pan as it never really gets shorter. It was posted 40 minutes but we were through within 30 and well worth it.

On our recent trip in August, this gate did not provide any advantage for us. We had reservations for 8:40am, with the park opening at 9am (this was Monday August 24th). This was the 1st seating of the morning. They held us at the gate until 8:30am, which is the same time they started letting others in for rope drop at 9am. I actually think we could have gotten through quicker going to a regular gate because they kept checking names on the reservation list. For a regular gate, this wouldn't have been the case. I could see where if we had an 8am reservations, and the park didn't open until 9am, how the gate is necessary. Just wasn't for us. We were like the 3 or 4th family into the restaurant, so I know it was the first seating of the morning. BTW, I loved the breakfast and will be sure to do it again on any future trip.

We are here now on vacation. We loved Breakfast at the Plaza Inn yesterday and made reservations for 9am Thursday. Is this character breakfast line open for that too? It has taken us at least 20 minutes to get through the lines at gates every morning!
