Has anyone done the character breakfast at the Nickelodeon Hotel? Is it worth the cost? How far in advance do you need to make reservations?

TIA :goodvibes

We did it, our youngest ( at the time we have since had another) really enjoyed it. Was it worth the money??? Well no probably not but alot of things we do on vacations are over-priced and do it for the memories and smiles and such. We were staying at Nick Hotel (never again) and we booked like the night before. We came back from Universal one night walked up to the desk and asked if it was available. If it makes a difference we were there in Nov/Dec so if your going in summertime or busier times then you may need much more advance reservations. I would do the breakfast again if my son wanted to for his sake, I personally will never stay at Nick Hotel again though.

BTW- food was just normal breakfast fare. Nothing great but it wasn't awful either, just an average breakfast with Spongebob, Dora, etc.

If you don't mind me asking, why would you not stay at Nick Hotel again? We are going in June, I read/researched as much as humanly possible, it got good reviews on Travelocity/expedia, even on this board. Please tell all- our first time not staying disney property and I'm very nervous about it.

No problem, let me first preface this by saying IF you are just gonna be at the hotel and not at a Theme park all day, then I am sure the experience would be alot different.

Ok fist off price, when we went we coule find no codes, promos ( we booked late was a last minute kind of thing) Our 8 year old kept saying ohhhhh Nick Hotel etc etc

Well we had 4 nights planned at Portofino Bay at Universal ( we would hit US/IOA, seaworld ) then off to our 9 day stay at Beach Club. Well we gave in, we dropped 2 nights at Portofino bay ( now 2 nights) and added 2 at Nick Hotel for our little man . We got to Nick Hotel and of course you see all the colors and such he was so excited. Well we check in, then head to our room. We get to the room and it was basically a renovated Holiday inn Suites with some bunk beds, a PS2, and some characters on the wall. Now mind you, I have no problem in overpaying for things, my wife has become sort of a master of over-paying. I basically thought to myself, what a rip-off this place is. So my son freaks out ( I think we had Fairly Odd Parents or Danny Phantom room) I know it wasn't Spongebob cause it was even more. So he starts saying man they got a Ps2 here ( keep in mind now at my house we have a wii, PS3, 2 xbox 360's, a ps2, an old xbox, 2 DSi's, 2 DS lites, and 2 psps) along with lord knows how many games. The Ps2 at my house never gets touched by the kids unless they wanna try and break out one of the Kingdom Heartts games in hopes of trying to beat it (normally they just load my saving and just run around) However he sees a PS2 with no games and thinks it is better than sliced bread. So we go downstairs to check out everything a bit, the pool is very large and entertaining looking to say the least. Lobby looks cool, gift shop, mini-food court, arcade, and the theater thing where they have the shows. We glance at show-times, oh well too bad we are going back to US in about an hour as planned and have SeaWorld tomorrow.

Well we leave the lobby and head back upstairs get ready and head to the park. Out all day, get back late, next day it is Seaworld not as late of a day but we are coming back at night after dinner, so kids wanna hit the arcade for a few so we meander on down for awhiile. Well aside from playing who knows how many bucks worth of video games, they see that in the arcade the rent PS2 games, LOL, how convienent. So we get a couple of those and head back upstairs ( oh I stopped in by the desk and got the ressie for Character breakfast the next day which was our checkout day.

All in all, if I would have gotten some codes I have seen for like half off and stuff, and IF we weren't doing a theme park and could take full advantage of the shows and pool area then it would have been fine to stay there. For us however, none of that came to pass.

With that said, I hope you have a wonderful stay there. My son still loved it.

Thanks scdisneyguy for the clarification, glad to hear it wasn't some kind of dump/dirty place, I totally see your point, we are also doing 5 days in Universal (HRH), then a few days in Disney, so for the 4 days at Disney, figured we would do Nick and my daughter thought my GS (4) would love this place. My only fear (well one of them anyway) is that we are bringing him to a place that is entertainment in itself, and pulling him away to go to the parks (MK & Epcot) for those days, well we will see how this works. I got a great price on the room (actually got 1 night free on travelocity) and compared to the deluxe Disney hotels we usual do, this $ is a drop in the bucket, so I didn't argue. Thanks for the info. - did you have to book the character breakfast ahead of time or just show up? do you remember the cost?

Also wanted to add that you can't do the breakfast if you're not staying there.

I believe it was 18.95 or so for adults ( over 12 I think) and like 9.95 or 10.95 for kids. As far as ressies, I know they recommend them, like I said we made the ressie the night before with no problem, but some other times you may need alot of time in advance . Also prices may have increased since we went so you may wanna check those as well.

Hope you really enjoy it.

We have stayed at the Nick hotel twice. The last time there we did the breakfast since it was my DS birthday. The breakfast was okay. It was the same as the breakfast outside in the mall area. The characters were great. There were the fairly odd parents fairys, dora, deigo, and spongebob. Everyone but Spongebob come around to the tables. Spongebob goes to a special area to pose for photos. It was worth it for us. Expensive but worth it. They sing and dance and the kids have a great time.

Kids have a great time, but its just average...ALL around. The hotel is nothing spectacular, but when you add Spongebob, its all good right? (at least for the 12 and under crowd!!) :lmao:
I've never been very impressed with the breakfast (2 times). The food is nothing special.
I posted a little more about the hotel in an above post about the Nick Hotel.
Good luck!

we went twice the first we booked in advance the second time we just booked on the day, the omlette station is nice ...yummy.

This made me laugh because my son would do the SAME EXACT THING! :happytv:

How was Portofino Bay -- We have stayed at Pop and at AKL (loved it) but would love to one day stay in Universal too!
