Do I need to make a PS for breakfast at the Kona Cafe or could we just walk in?

Probably depends on the time of year - we went this time last month with a PS, but they were seating walkups immediately and had lots of empty tables.

I would make a PS if you know you want to eat there just in case, or even call that morning for one before you leave your resort, just so you don't travel over there to be turned away (unless you're staying at Poly already)

I always make a PS.

Well almost always. Against all my rules, I did not make one for our last am at the Polynesian last month. I thought we would either have breakfast in the concierge lounge or order room service or a combination of both. But my DH wanted to go to Kona which we all love. We decided on this the night before but as I wasn't sure what time we would actually be out of the room with packing, I did not make a PS.

So although I hoped to be out by 8am, it was 9 by the time we left the room. I checked in and was told a 30-40 minute wait. There were lots of people waiting for tables but also a number of empty tables. My husband arrived about 10 minutes later after a last trip to the car and asked again as the crowds had cleared quite a bit...several large family groups were seated. They could not find our card..... :earseek: but then located it at the front. Anyway, this guy whom I have never seen before at Kona (not a manager) walked back and looked at us very coldly and said it would be "20-30 minutes.....the same as you were quoted." Now this man had not caught the Aloha spirit. We had not complained just wanted to know if things had changed since there were so few people waiting at this point. We told them we would come back another time (an understatement :sunny: ), picked up breakfast for our kids at the Kona counter and headed to the MK.

Glad I got that off my chest as this guy's attitude was so unfriendly. I'm sure he'll come around as I've seen it happen at Kona before but he really made me feel badly. Too sensitive I guess.

Anyway....make those PSs/ADRs. This was a Sunday am though and I've long
thought Sundays seem especially busy at Kona.

Time of the year and time in the morning . If you go during the off season, and eat around 9:30, everyone is off to the parks. We usually walk right in.

Thanks - I went ahead and made a PS since I want to go there for breakfast on Father's Day. We are staying at the Poly and I thought it would be nice. Although DH wants a buffet, so I may change the ressie. Any suggestions for a good breakfast buffet for Father's Day - does not have to be a character breakfast.

My three favorite breakfast buffets are Fresh, Boma and Maya Grill. Fresh features the "fresh" eggs to order, while Boma has a few items of a specialty nature. Maya is probably the more "standard" of the group.
As to Kona--don't be alarmed at the "crowd" that you may find standing around. Many of those folks are actually waiting for the O'hana character breakfast next door.
