We are beginning to pack for our first Disney cruise. Yay! Is it appropriate to have my boys wear (dry) swim trunks with rash guards in the MDR at breakfast and/or lunch? And for me (the mom) Would it be appropriate to wear a blousy tank swimsuit top from athleta and navy shorts over swim bottoms? I have discovered that my UPF tops look silly over the swimsuit top because you can see the blousy fabric underneath.

It's not really appropriate for an MDR, but is fine at Cabanas.

Yes. It's the same as cabanas. I've seen swim suits with cover ups in MDRs during the day.

Would I plan on it? No. Would you "get away" with it? Perhaps...but it is more formal than the buffet and you could get turned away because they do indeed prohibit swimwear. I mean really, the MDR has ONE dress code request...why violate it?

I am not trying to violate rules. My family are actually conservative dressers. I buy my boys rash guards to protect them from the sun, they wear rash guards (even at night) because they don't want to expose their bare chests (lol).
I had read that lunch was a buffet in the MDRs and that cover ups were required for cabanas, however, I wasn't sure what would be a cover up for boys already wearing trunks and a rash guard and I didn't see anything about lunch in the MDR, just dinner.

Breakfast and lunch are table service with menus in the MDRs, with the exception of the embarkation lunch which is a buffet (except on the Wonder which has a menu in Triton's).

Breakfast and lunch in the MDRs are full-service, ordered meals, not buffets. The only exception is lunch on embarkation day.

Your first lunch that would totally be okay. All other days your boys would probably be fine most rash guards and dry swim trunks just look like shorts and t-shirts. I usually would throw a blouse or polo over my swimsuit and shorts on for lunch in the MDRs. I also have a darker colored cover up that looks like a sundress so I wear that sometimes too.

The stated dress code published by DIsney asks that you not wear swimsuits or tank tops into the MDRs. The dress code statement does not differentiate between breakfast lunch and dinner. If you do decide to wear swimsuits anyway, please make sure they're completely dry, as the chairs in Tritons have cloth seats.

Rash guards are pretty tight, right? Could they put t shirts on over top for the MDR? Maybe you could add a little shawl or casual jacket or sweater? It's air conditioned, so you won't be sweltering.

Because doing so at Breakfast and/or lunch does not violate the dress code. I see where it does apply to dinner.

It does not say MDR during all dining. It says during dinner.

No reason to. What the OP wants to do is within guidelines. Not dinner time.

I think you'd feel under dressed in the MDR for breakfast or lunch in swim wear. Also, I've found that the meals there are time consuming.. we block out 60-90 minutes for a meal there. If everyone's dying to get back to the waterslide and pools, Cabanas would probably be a better choice for that day.

According to your reasoning, I could show up in a g-string swimsuit at lunch in the MDR because it does not specifically list it as prohibited during lunch? Sweet!!!
Yes. If that's what you prefer.

Is breakfast and lunch good at the MDR's? Do the characters come through?
