Bread & milk - what do you buy when a storm is coming?

Another one who doesnt panic much here, but I would like to pick up some firewood while we are out getting DS's birthday cake tonight. Hopefully we wont have to cancel his party tomorrow.

Hope not!!! Both of my kids have December birthdays so I understand completely.

NOTHING! I don't believe in running out and buying on possibilities. We will survive, I am not mother hubbard and I have enough in the cupboards. I usually keep 1 gallon of milk in the fridge (most of the time) and we would be ok for a week or so.

Not much here either because we generally also buy things in bulk and we have plenty of canned goods in the basement and propane for the campstove if needed. My dad use to buy kitty litter too, and we had a cat but plenty for her, and then I found out why. He would put it in his trunk when he decided it was time to try to go to work. That way if he got stuck, the cat litter made good traction - don't know if that's true but that's what he always told us.

Lets see, I went this morning because we were really low on some stuff and would have gone anyway. In my case I bought:

milk
orange juice
water
bananas
salad
a chicken
stuff to make cookies
cookie cutters (I figure my 21 month old might like to try, anyway)
pillsbury cinnamon rolls (mmm...snowy day...)
cereal
fishsticks
sharpie pens to fill out those christmas cards

nothing as exciting as shrimp, but combined with what we have in the house this should do! oh, and we have plenty of wine and other yummy things I'm not allowed to have while pregnant. Guess I'll stick to hot cocoa!

The only extra thing we bought (picked up basics like milk and eggs just cause we were out) were gas for the snowblower and kerosene for the heater for the downstairs playroom.. I know the kids will be down there most of the weekend, when they aren't playing in the snow!

Usually we go out and buy bread and milk and goodies for baking.

This year we went out and bought a snowblower.

Didn't keep the snow away, though.......

It's funny that so many people are commenting that they bought things to bake. On the news this morning, they mentioned that after bread, milk and eggs, the busiest aisle is the baking aisle. They even had a woman on who said she was making pies so she'd be occupied while she's stranded inside.

It is now 6:00PM in Jersey, and I just returned from the supermarket(just in case). Apparently people buy chicken...lots of chicken! There was not a darn chicken leg left to be bought! I don't know about you, but if I am to be confined to my house due to a storm...I don't want to eat chicken for dinner THE WHOLE WEEK!

Hope all you guys are ok out htere in the NE and the storm isn't too bad.

When we are forecasted with a blizzard, I go get extra milk, pop, bread, cold cuts, and a chickena nd roast to make. Comfort food, I guess.

All man I can relate this one. Here in Chattanooga if don't bread milk and eggs when they say it's snow. You is out luck. Because everything close. I mean everything. That mean can't leave your house either.

I suppose to go work tonight because the truck is late. They just call say it's snow night don't bother about coming in because they is closing the store.

It's only suppose to a few flurries and they is panicky. They already got the snow trucks on stand by.

We were supposed to go grocery shopping tomorrow for DS's 3rd birthdya party on Sunday but went today instead cause we heard the snow was going to be bad. Camcolt I feel for you. Hope you dont have to cancel cause I'm worried about the same thing. I just spent $135 on food for the party, I better not have to cancel. Also supposed to go see Santa tomorrow and DH's work Christmas party. Guess we'll have to wait and see.

I've never been able to understand why everyone buys bread and milk. Why don't they get some meat or peanut butter and jelly to put on the bread? They surely don't around here - it's just bread and milk. Shouldn't you maybe get some cereal or something to go along with that milk too?

If I'm low on milk or even out of it I'll do without just because I don't want to deal with the long lines at the store.

Even though we leave on Saturday for Disney. i still fealt compelled to buy milk, potato chips 3 kinds! Hot chocolote and of all things cauliflower. Yes weird we eat it in our salad. Oh and the new SCOOPS... Has anyone seen these they are in asmall package that looks like a pringles snack pack. But they are simply chocolate slices shaped like potato chips. Last night at Stop and Shop people were buying tons of them!
