Brazilian (Brasilian)Tour Groups

I guess I'll have to brush up on my german and russian and really throw them for a loop the next time I run into a brazilian tour group..

I dont' want to stereotype or cause a cultural debate, but, being of hispanic heritage, I think that it's okay for me to speak about this subject (Brazilians are of Portugese heritage, but culturally we are pretty identical).

I have been at various WDW parks while Brazilian tour groups were there. On a few occassions there would be one or two Brazilians in line ahead of me, when, suddenly, a couple dozen other members of their tour group show up and join them, cutting in line. Their body language and conversation make it apparent that the few individuals that were already in line were not holding places for the group that later arrived; the bigger group just happened to arrive and took advantage of the situation. To be fair, this kind of behavior isn't unique to Brazilians or other cultures outside of the United States. I've had this same thing happen when the cheerleaders are in town (stay away from the All Star resorts when they're in town).

Something else that I've seen a few times: What appears like the entire tour group seated on the floor or in some open area eating lunch. The tour guide lifts his flag and indicates that the lunch break is over and the tour is continuing to the next attraction. Like a giant heard, the entire group stands up and leaves, leaving all of their garbage strewn about. It's amazing that not a single person bothered to put their trash in any of the several trash cans located within and immediately around the area that they were seated! The Brazilians with whom I had conversations were pretty affluent and had servants back at home who would pick up after them. They weren't intentionally trying to be rude, but it wasn't something that they even considered. I still don't think it excuses that kind of behavior.

This is not to say that all Brazilians are like that; but, unfortunately, it's the negative experiences that we remember and feed the stereotype.

Well as for me, I will simply step around them (the one or two holding spaces):tiptoe: and tell other families to do likewise. I mean really, either everyone shows up together or get to the back of the line buddy. It's a whole other situation when the parent and child might be in the bathroom or a person getting a quick cold drink and stepping in line with they're party.:thumbsup2

And what happens when you do that??? I totally agree with you and it is something I would do BUT I do not want to cause a fight on vacation KWIM...I can see me not letting them by.

Maybe everyone wouldn't have to worry about when they come to Disney if they would just learn some manners. I don't buy that crud that they don't know how to be curtious, because they are from a different country. I can't stand going when their groups are there.

MikeAidanEoinMom you can do it, just have the gusts to stand up to any group or any fellow vacationer. Because think about, if your family has been standing in line for 12 mins right behind a tour group of some sort, brazilians or otherwise and you only saw 1 or 2 people, then 20-50 more show up and just expect to step right in front of your family increasing your wait time even more, you will definitly have to speak up. But in light of kids being present I guess we all have to learn to choose our battles wisely. But in general I'm a very confrontational bold, blunt person with a big mouth in my own life and no one pushes me around or would even attempt to. I'm nice but not stupid or a push over by any means. I'm usually the one everybody else has to shut up when I or anyone with me has been wronged. I don't like rudeness and put them on blast (will call someone out about it)!

I never used to be but am getting there....I just wondered as a group as a whole how do they react if you do not let them cut?? I will have 2 little kids and would not like a shouting match to happen KWIM

Only in a perfect world

To speak on CM training, we were taught not only about brazilians but asians, europeans, idians, doing the two finger point, and so on. Disney goes way out for training and it shows. That's why is has the reputation it does. To this day I have taken everything I learned from my days training and working there into my everyday life and into every job I've had.

Also what may be rude to one culture or geographical location my not be the same elsewhere. It's just amazes me how Americans will always bend over backwards for foreigners and when we leave our country to visit somewhere else in the world, we Americans are never catered to. But are money is always good:offtopic:

MikeAidanEoinMom, well like I said we have to pick our battles in light of the kiddies being present. So you should just judge the situatiuon we it happens and make a decision at that time. Then have DH back you up. You may be able to get the attention of a CM. I didn't work rides I was in retail first then switched to characters so I don't know how they handle this type of thing. Lord knows I wouldn't want to read about you on the internet like the infamous "Tea Cup Lady" :rotfl2:

HAHAHA Well I would never get like that. I'll have to ask my nephew he is CM now does not work a ride but did when he was in the CP.

I did the CP too! About 10-11 years ago?? I'm getting old :)

They should look to see my face and wonder how I'm gonna react:eek: in the next few seconds...know what I mean

LMAO he did it twice.... Once fall of ummm 2005 and once fall of 2002??? I think...he kept his temp CM status and Graduated College in MAy and started a internship and now got a regular position!!:) Hence the Disney wedding in July 2008 ..and having to deal with the tour groups LOL

I want to know if anyone has ever confronted a group before. I cannot see myself just standing there and letting 20 people get infront of me. 2 or 3 maybe but not a group. What can you do? If a group of 10 people is trying to walk up the line and you just block them from passing and they try to say excuse me, do you just ignore them or tell them there is no cutting. Will everyone else look at me like I am a total .............well you know.:confused3

No I have never had to confront any tour groups at WDW but elsewhere and other themeparks. If I've been waiting for a substancial amount of time and then a group tries to cut, at that point I don't really care about appearences. But that's just me and usually after I speak up others follow suit. As if I needed back up.

We no longer stay there because of the tour groups. They were so obnoxious last July, we'll only stay at Moderate or Deluxe now at that time of year.

Our grand gathering stayed at POR the last week of June in the same building as one of these groups. Now, we love to do the PM EMH, but realize that not everyone does and we need to be respectful of that as we get back to the resort. This information was either not shared with - or not observed by - the teens with this group. Security was contacted at least one of the nights during our stay.

not to jump on the bandwagon, but, last sept dh and I were practicaly mugged by the leader of a "flag group" trying to push past us at rope drop at mgm. Thankfuly the CM stopped them. I have had all the bad experinces over the years but never had a cm get involved. This group was completely out of control starting with the leader! I try to run when I see the flag but not always an option.
