Brazilian Blowout?

We'd been battling my 6th grader's hair. It's waist length and any product I bought didn't really help alleviate the frizz around her face. We're in San Francisco and with the length and thickness of her hair, ours cost more. All I can tell you is that it has been worth every penny. I rarely cut my hair so I'm pretty cheap. Her self-confidence made an instant improvement. It changed the way she looked. Her hair even looked like a slightly different color. Once straightened it was amazingly long. It feels silky and smooth. Every morning used to be tears as I combed through her hair. Now she takes care of it herself every day but the day she washes her hair. The less you wash your hair the longer it lasts. She washes it once a week and uses the special products. Amazon has some good prices. I comb it out and then we use a flat iron on it which takes about 2 hours. She does nothing else all week. My parents notice a confidence in change in her. Her hair as always been complimented, but now it's even more so. We did it the first weekend in November and it took a long, long time. It still stays silky straight. But we do flat iron once a week after her shower. I have heard you need someone really experienced with it to do it if you want longer lasting results. I've been told when she does it the second time it'll be even straighter. I think we'll do it again in maybe May. It's hard to pay for it but not hearing the tears every morning and seeing my daughter feel good about herself makes it worth it.

So, was getting my hair colored last night and asked my stylist what her suggestions were to tame my frizzy hair. When I was younger, my hair was very long and stick straight -- I could wash it, flip it upside down to blow dry and it would look great. As I've gotten older the texture has changed -- it now has quite a bit of wave and can be very frizzy. I still wear it long (about 6" past my shoulders), so the only way to get it to look nice and smooth is to wash, blow dry it out straight with a round brush and then flat iron. This takes roughly 45 minutes to an hour minimum as my hair is also extremely thick. Needless to say, I don't want to put this much time into hair styling every day, so I usually end up pulling it into a ponytail most of the time.

My stylist suggested a Brazilian Blowout. And she said that she would do it for $150 if I do it at the same time as my next cut/color -- regular price is $200. Supposedly it will last for 10-12 weeks. Has anyone had this done? If so, how did you like it? Was it worth the $$? I know there have been some complaints about the chemicals that are used -- but they now have the "Zero" formula that doesn't use the questionable chemicals. So, I'm not worried about that. Just not sure I want to spend that much without being sure it's going to work.

TIA!

I got the keratin treatment done and it didn't make any difference. The salon actually did it twice because it didn't work the first time and even after the 2nd time it still didn't work. I have thick, slightly wavy hair this is frizzy. After the treatment I still have to blow our and straighten. Not worth the money for me

Same thing happened to me, it made my hair slightly smoother, but not worth the money at all, I wont be doing it again.

I couldn't believe there was a thread about this! :scared1:

However, it is not the same "Brazilian" I was thinking.

Well I am going to bite te bullet and try getti bng mine done. It is a big *** for me and I hope it works, my hair is an overprocessed mess.

Here is the before...

She got into the shower and washed her hair with the pre-treatment shampoo, I applied the treatment solution and then blew her hair dry...

Here is her hair after we flat ironed, rinsed and blew it dry again...

Typically she lets her hair air dry and it is not as "flat", but this treatment takes care of all of her frizzes at her hair line and around her face that she hates.

I buy the solution from a seller on ebay. It is the Brazilian Blowout product that only stylists can buy.

Thanks for the pics. The before pics look better then the mess i have on my head! I sure hhope they can do something about mine. I tried to cut corners on my hair and have it done by people at my house. It is so awful. I am going to chock writing this check out to my old stylist but I am tired of my hair. I hope I have good results? I have used this stylist previously for years so I am sure she will do right by me.

Thank you for those pics! I'm with Monique! I would LOVE to have your DD's BEFORE pic hair:) mine is a huge fuzzball if I don't do anything with it. I, too, hope it works for my big ol' poof! :)

Your daughter's hair looks gorgeous!!!!! VERY smooth!

I had it done with the old chemicals and it produced noxious fumes. I knew that wouldn't last long on the market b/c there was no question that had to be dangerous. The results only lasted about 6 weeks, not even 1/2 of what my stylist expected. That was very surprising since my hair isn't frizzy, just thick, with a lot of it.

Anyway, I paid about $175 for the treatment. The results were beautiful while they lasted.

I just want to know why all this stuff is called "Brazilian"???????

Brazilian Blowout
Brazilian Wax
Brazilian Hair Straightening
Brazilian Conditioning Treatment.......

I KNOW all this stuff was NOT originated in Brazil, so why is it all "Brazilian"??? Does it make it seem more "exotic" so they can charge you a ton of money for it????

HannaBelle,

Your daughter's hair looks nice but keep in mind, she already has straight hair with an almost fine texture and some flyaways. You could probably accomplish the same thing on her hair with some conditioning cream, a blow dry and flat iron. Finish up with some "ends tamer" for the flyaways and you're done.

I am now wavering. It costs over 200 here, i have thick, think wavy hair. Ifscrunch itI and put some gel in it looks like a spreral perm from the 80s. IF that ever comes back in fashion I am set! I have to shower at night theb flat iron the next morning in very small time consuming chunks. IF I blowdry then straighten it is forever and chances of it poofing within a day are high. If I had the hair in the first picture I would count my lucky stars and be thrilled. Hell if I can get my hair like the before pictures from the brazillian blowout I would be happy. I am going to really talk it over with my stylist.

For those of you with curly hair and are ready to embrace your curls.....check out www.ouidad.com.

Have had my hair cut twice and you would not believe the difference. Teaches you how to embrace and love the natural curls. I have extremely curly spirals, cut gets rid of the "triangle" and styling-products tame the frizz.

I am 45 and loving the curls for the very first time ( and I can still iron it straight, but since so much of the "bulk" is gone, it takes alot less time).

Thanks for all of the compliments guys! She loves the treatment b/c it really smoothes out the frizz.

Her hair is actually very thick and just frizzy around the face. She wants to be able to wash and air dry it without all of the frizz. She does not want to use hair products on a daily basis and hates hair spray..no curling irons, no flat irons, no nothing!

I am a 80's girl and live for hair spray. :thumbsup2 The treatment allows her to wear her hair natural without the extra frizz.

My hair is much more textured than hers, but it is not curly. I either have to flat iron (which kills my hair no matter what products I use) or perm it. I love it permed (again...80's girl) but I am just feeling straight right now.

Since I have done the treatment 2x on my hair, it is not as unruly as it once was. I don't have any pics of myself without my hair "fix" so you can see a before/after of me.

I will post another pic in a couple of days of DD when she has let her hair air dry so you can see the difference.

My hair is super curly and it looks like HannaBelle's daughter's hair when I straighten it.

And FWIW, your daughter is VERY pretty and has beautiful HAIR before & after!
:cutie:

Thanks for this link! I embrace my curly hair and that site looks great! Add me to the list of people that were a little nervous about the "Brazilian" in the subject line, but I had to open it anyway! :thumbsup2

It really depends on how curly your hair is. In my personal experience, if your hair is very curly, it will not become stick straight. If you want to wear it curly/wavy, you'll still need product, and if you want to wear it straight, you'll still have to do some work. However, I do use less product when my hair is curly than I used to, so there's a very good chance you'll need less stuff.

Also, I got mine done at a cosmetology school and it cost less than $100. You might look into that.

Thanks for the info, and especially about the cosmetology school. I will definitely look into that! :goodvibes

I had the Brocato treatment from Ulta done yesterday. Very pleased with my hair so far and no bad chemically smell during the treatment like there was with the Coppola treatment. True test will be after I wash tonight or tomorrow. Ulta is currently charging $159.
