Bratz dolls? Love em or hate em?

They are ugly little dolls. That said, for goodness sakes it's just a doll!
Dd (6) has several and as of yet she hasn't started dressing like a hooker or acting like a brat (or a least no brattier than usual).
Honestly, for those of you who refuse to let yor child have one, what impact do you think this doll will have on your childs life?

I think it's good to show our children that they should have some standards applied in their lives. There are some tv shows they can't watch, and there are some toys they can't have.

I don't think they will have any impact on DD's life but I also don't want to hold that up as an appropriate standard. I also don't want my $$ going to support what I see as garbage. I am annoyingly picky though. My kids also can't have any clothing with several TV characters on it.

I don't necessarily think these dolls will have a negative impact on my DD's....I just think they are way too trashy looking and I don't want my children pretending to be a "Bratz" character. I don't approve of the makeup and clothing the dolls wear...the whole concept is disgusting to me. Why would I want to promote that "look" for my DD's?

There are many other dolls that I do find appealing, as do my DD's (American Girl, Princess, Polly Pocket etc) that I would rather see them pretending to be instead of the Bratz.

Last year they had them , and whoah .... I can't even see a teenage girl wearing something that street walkerish.. My dh even exclaimed when we saw them at Target "Wow, moms actually let their little girls dress up like that?"

No offence to anyone who does like them *puts a flame suite on* but man... might as well buy those overly s#xed dolls for the weird uncle on your list.

no flames here....my DD15 saw our 6 year old neighbor the other day at dance and she was wearing her Bratz costume...I can hardly wait to see what it looks like on Halloween

Does your Dd play w/ Barbies? Do you think they set appropiate standards? I'm not trying to pick, really...I guess it just surprises me when I hear parents saying Bratz dolls....not in MY house! I suppose I see them as just an ugly barbie doll and nothing more.
As far as the Bratz halloween costumes, no way would any daughter of mine wear one, but then again a lot of Barbie clothes I wouldn't find appropiate for a child either.

I dunno-- Barbie might have an obscenely unrealistic figure, but she never really looked like a slut to me. She always had a certain element of class to her.

The Bratz dolls just look trashy-- if I had kids, there's no way I'd want them playing with those things. I don't think I'd outright BAN them, but they would definitely be discouraged.

Actually the only barbies my DD has now are the Disney Princess ones. I don't allow others (for now.)

You say you will allow DD to have bratz, but not dress like one. That is your standard and line. My line is not have them in the house or support their marketing by purchasing (no mater what they are on sale for. ) I agree with disneymom3 and the others about that.

Barbie can be a Dr., Teacher ... but has never been a prostitute in training. So she is fine with me. I personally would give them the Disney Princess ones.

I used to hate Bratz too and discouraged DD from even looking at them. I shared the opinion that they looked trashy and certainly not as beautiful as those princess dolls I loved to buy for her. Well, DD outgrew princess dolls about a year ago and started asking for the dreaded Bratz just like all her friends had. I resisted at first until it dawned on me that it is just a doll! I don't have to like something for DD to like it...she is allowed to have her own opinions. I don't think she is likely to end up dressing like them, just as I did not grow up to wear the ball gowns and stewardess outfits my Barbies had when I was a child. She just turned 8 and these dolls were all she wanted for her birthday. In a year or two she will move on to something else.

I figured it was a decision between allowing the dolls or explaining the definitions of prostitute, hooker, skanky, 'ho, trampy trash, etc.

I'm pretty secure knowing that I'm raising my dd to have strong moral self worth, no matter what her dolls look like, so they don't worry me.

Fortunately, she doesn't like the Baby Bratz, because I might have to take a stand on them. Not because they're skanky, but because they're simply too weird!!

I don't want them in our house - but I have told my daughter that if someone bought her one as a gift I would let her keep it.

I don't like the way they look or the name - just as many others stated - I don't think they would change my daughters - turn her into anything I am against - I faith in them and in myself and how I have raised them

I agree with DisneyPHD and Disneymom3 - I don't want my money going to support that line - this is my stand on the Brat dolls.

I have explained it to my daughters - I don't like them - here is why - and I won't spend my money on them. But as long as you understand that they are a doll and real girls shouldn't dress like that or act like a Brat --- then if someone buys you one - I will allow you to keep it.
