Bratz dolls? Love em or hate em?

You're right, someone must be buying them, but it isn't us! There has never been one come through the door of our house. I don't like the name or the look. I always told dd's that I thought they look trashy and I wasn't spending money on them. I guess I've made my opinion well known because they've never received them for a gift either.

I don't allow my daughter to play with Bratz dolls. Whenever she gets one as a present I throw it away. I do not see anything positive about this product.

I understand the feelings posted on this thread because yes they are dressed provocatively and it is up to each parent to decide what they will allow their child to do. Whether it is play with a certain toy or watch a certain movie, sleepover at someone's home etc. We have so many decisions to make and we have to make them according to what we feel comfortable with. Clearly these dolls and others like them are controversial. Just for me personally, I don't feel uncomfortable with them or any doll. Now if they get an anotomically correct doll out there or a doll that has a voice chip with fowl language or that does certain things, they will have reached my tolerance threshold. We all have our limits.

I refuse to buy them. The project any image of materialism and shallowness that is amazing. At least Barbie has a job.

I have to agree with the poster that said "Hey they are just dolls". I may not like the name of the dolls "Bratz"but hey they are just that DOLLS. My daughter has a small collection of them as well. She has Barbie, and she has the princesses. For me they are just overmade up Britney Spears dressing Barbies. Barbies skirts are not very much longer than thiers anyway, lol.

I think they are just awful looking and hope that by the time my DD is old enough - she's not due until January - they will have just gone away. I wouldn't buy them myself but if someone gave my DD one I wouldn't make her return it or not let her play with it. I have an aunt who has made it perfectly clear that her daughters aren't allowed to have Bratz dolls. She was actually kind of obnoxious about it especially since I can't see my mom or grandmother buying that kind of doll anyway. (no flames - I'm definitely not saying it is obnoxious to not want your DD's to have them. She is actually obnoxious about a lot of things) I'm not going to throw a big fit about them but I personally don't care for them.

Here's another vote for hating them - I've never told DD that she couldn't have them, but I don't think she likes them to much either. She's never said that, but I can just tell. She would rather go to Build a Bear anyday then have a Bratz doll.

I agree that they are just dolls - and there are much nicer dolls out there to purchase and play with, so why bother with these? Ugly is ugly. And the Bratz dolls are ugly!

:)

Hate 'em - too trashy. I explain to my DD that she can not possibly have everything she sees that she wants - and that she is already "into" Barbie/My Scene (which I think maybe do approach that, but in just my own opinion do not go quite so far), her Disney Doll with AG clothes and accessories, few as possible Pollys, and her favorite - Littlest Pets...I explain that if she trys to have too many interests, she will have fewer items for each interest - so she is better off sticking to a few things - and that I would prefer it not be Bratz.

She has one that she received as a gift - and I really don't like that the feet come off, don't know why....and I don't think they are all like that anymore.

The Teen Trends are very nice - but I believe they are like $60, aren't they?

:wizard:

I used to hate Bratz too and discouraged DD from even looking at them. I shared the opinion that they looked trashy and certainly not as beautiful as those princess dolls I loved to buy for her. Well, DD outgrew princess dolls about a year ago and started asking for the dreaded Bratz just like all her friends had. I resisted at first until it dawned on me that it is just a doll! I don't have to like something for DD to like it...she is allowed to have her own opinions. I don't think she is likely to end up dressing like them, just as I did not grow up to wear the ball gowns and stewardess outfits my Barbies had when I was a child. She just turned 8 and these dolls were all she wanted for her birthday. In a year or two she will move on to something else.

This is funny you bring this up. Just 2 days ago I was at the toy store with my DH shopping for my 12 year old brother's b-day. We saw the bratz dolls, and my DH just laughed at them. I told him I would never let our children play with such a thing. They look like sluty rich snobs! And the fact that they are called bratz should clue you in. They are the complete opposite of how I would want my daughter to look and behave.

Then my DH asked "So you think your brother wants one for his b-day?" :rotfl2:

I don't care for the "Crack Wh__e" dolls, and neither does my daughter.

They are ugly little dolls. That said, for goodness sakes it's just a doll!
Dd (6) has several and as of yet she hasn't started dressing like a hooker or acting like a brat (or a least no brattier than usual).
Honestly, for those of you who refuse to let yor child have one, what impact do you think this doll will have on your childs life?

Wow, I am surprised by all of the Bratz haters out there. This is the first time I've ever heard anyone say anything negative about them. As far as I'm concerned, they are dolls and nothing more. My daughter has a lot of Bratz dolls as well as Barbies, Polly Pockets, American Girl Dolls, Groovy Girls, etc.. All of my daughter's friends have Bratz dolls. My nieces have them. As far as the Bratz dolls being trashy, well I guess I never thought about it because it just looks like a doll to me. I guess you could say the same thing about some of the Barbies out there now as well due to the way they are dressed sometimes?

Uhh... must I EVEN dignify that question with a response? ;)

Ahem... :goodvibes

Of course I hate them!!!!!!!! lol

I call them "Tartz"

I swear the ppl who design those skanky looking dolls must be a group of 40 year old pervy guys.

Anyways, if ANYTHING came good out of those dolls, it is that Mattel is now forced to go out of the crappy quality cheap playline Barbies, and start making more 'hip' dolls. I LOVE Fashion Fever dolls... Although Mattel needs to use collector edition kind of hair fiber like Saran.. That stuff they use now is like dog hair! :rotfl:

That must be true! (or even wrose and I really don't want to think about it. :earseek:

My DD really likes grovey girls. All the grove, none of the trash! :cool1: More age appropraite for a 4 year old I think too. (I realize some of the moms here are talking about 7 years old and up.) However they will still be banned from my house. There is enough other choices out there that we don't need any around here and she won't be lacking in any way what so ever.

I will admit last year my DD was looking at the toys R us add. She pointed to the Bratz and said "I don't like them" Then looked at the strawberry shortcake and said "I don't have any of those dolls, mom can I get some for Chirstmas?" I was so proud of her. Guess what she ended up with for Chirstmas? :rolleyes1

Lulu girl, it has more to do with giving my aproval (that I don't) then fear of what will happen if my DD is contaiminated with them. By not allowing them (even though DD doesn't want one at this point) it lets her know I don't approve of them. (The same as toy guns if you ask me.) If it became such a big deal that she was sneaking them or something like that I might change my mind, cross that bridge when we get to it.

I would say based on this thread I wouldn't give one as a present with out being sure what the family thinks about it 1st. ;)

My 11 DD liked until she was about 8. I thought they were cute. She had the car with the radio in it. When I was kid I would have loved that.
