We are not doing a big Disney vacation this year, we are planning just a smaller family vacation..We have booked a hotel in branson, I need some good ideas on activities for the family..:)

Silver Dollar City is great!
Sights and Sounds Theater is doing Moses- we saw Jonah there last summer it was really good.
White Water is OK (after Disney water parks though just ah..)
My kids also enjoyed the Titanic museum
There are also a few new zipline courses too.
Ride the Ducks
Branson Landing

Former Branson resident here!!

Silver Dollar City is a must do. To me, it's the best themed park outside of Disney. Some great rides for thrill seekers AND for the not-so-thrill-seekers!

The Tanger Outlet mall is there...I used to be a CM at the Disney outlet :earsgirl:

Depending on your interests, there's lots of mini golf and shopping, go-karts, shows, imax, ziplining (including one that goes over Lake Taneycomo!), and boating/fishing on one of the lakes. It's a beautiful area!

There's also the Ripley's Believe it Or Not museum, and Branson Wild World - kind of an indoor aquarium/zoo thing. You can feed sharks. My kids really like it, I think it's just ok. But when I say my kids like it, I mean, my kids REALLY like it.

It's a fun place! Enjoy your visit!

Also, the water park next to Silver Dollar City is pretty fun. One other thing that was surprisingly fun was the Branson Belle. You get a good dinner, a show, and a boat ride all for one price. If you plan on seeing any shows, the bright purple house on the main street through Branson that says "Half price show tickets" is actually the only place that DOES have half price tickets with no strings attached. All of the other ones are time share presentations.

We went in June 2012 with a 13 and 10 year old. We liked:
Silver Dollar City
Titanic Museum
Ride the Ducks
Dixie Stampede
Dogwood Canyon Nature Park (biking and tram ride- SO pretty!)
National Tiger Sanctuary (about 10 miles north of Branson)

While you're in the area, if you go up just north of Springfield there is Fantastic Caverns. It's a huge cave that you can take a tram ride through. My kids really thought it was neat.

In addition to what's listed above, we like:

Yakov Smirnoff show
The trout hatchery
Chinese acrobats

The Springfield Zoo & Bass Pro World Headquarters (both roughly 45 miles North of Branson).

If you like to fish or want to introduce any of your kids, Taneycomo is the perfect place. You can catch trout all day long there with basic equipment and boat rentals are not that expensive. You can PM if you want the name of the place we stayed at. Small family owned resort, great people, quiet, on the lake even though Taney is more like a river, close to downtown Branson. There's a ton of things to do there.

The acappella group Six is fantastic! The tickets were maybe $40/pp and it was family friendly. We bought their cds, they hang out afterwards to sign and for photos.
We rented a timeshare 1 bedroom full kitchen room for $88/night. I can't think of the name, but it was fantastic, got the deal on expedia. The Little Mermaid from Broadway was there in June, but since we saw it on Broadway we skipped it. Branson Landing is fun, but was under water from flooding, so I don't know if it will be open anytime soon. The scenery is lovely, we just randomly drove around. Didn't do too much more because we were there for a wedding, but will definitely go back.

Definatley get off the strip and see the area. Dogwood Canyon and Dinner and the golf cart tour at Top of the rock are a must!

Also kids love the Bass Pro Shops Store an hour North at Springfield. It was the first store and it is huge. Many aquariums , alligators and lots of other animals to see

Bigger tip I can give is to search out the alternate routes (blue route, yellow route, etc) and use them. If you just try to go back & forth on 76, you're going to be in miserable traffic most of the time.
