I am one who will usually make a reservation for a DVC resort about 4 months ahead of time so rarely do I plan so early on...

I have a March UY... Say I want to book for September 2011 in a Grand Villa and will have to make my reservations in October 2011... Do I have to bank my current year's points to 2011 to make that reservation or would they take it from my 2010 allotment or does it matter in the end at all since it would technically be a borrowing transaction...

Thanks in advance...

sept 2011 is in your 2011 UY.

when you call in october 2010, you can bank any leftover 2010 pts and use those banked 2010 pts, current 2011 pts or borrowed 2012 pts to make that reservation in your 2011 UY.

edited to add: if you are using 2010 UY pts to book a reservation in your 2011 UY, then yes, they would have to be banked. but since your banking window doesn't close before the end of october, it's easy to do both in one call.

OK good... Today I ended up banking my allotment of 2010 UY points for SSR so that I have 300 into 2011... I still have 304 active 2010 UY points for BWV and BCV (which I will likely just bank anyway but you never know)... With the 300 now safely into 2011 I will have no issues (Aside from availability) come October to make my reservations.

I had forgotten how they end up deducting points is all... If you take your trip in 2010 UY, they will take 2010 points but if you take a trip in UY 2011 they will take 2011 point, even if you have 2010 points remaining.

Yes, that is correct. You have to bank the 2010 points to get them into the 2011 use year before the 2010 points can be used for a trip that falls within your 2011 use year.

A good MS CM will notice the 2010 points and ask if you want to bank and use them, but you cannot count on that. It is our job to keep track of our points.

It's a really good idea to ask for a points "status" after each transaction before you hang up. If you get a status that doesn't match what you were expecting, that is the best time to get it cleared up. Doing that takes a few extra minutes, but saves hours and hours of hassles later if something went wrong.

Since you will be booking at the 11 month window, they will use the banked 2010 and current 2011 UY points from SSR to secure the resevation, even if you still have 2010 points from your other resorts.

I think if you were booking at 7 months and still had 2010 points at other resorts, you have to tell them to bank and then use those, along with your other banked points.
