 my ds13 got braces yesterday....he goes back next week for the wires....he is a very picky eater and now he has a limited choice of foods to eat..anybody else go through this?

I have one daughter in braces , ready to come off next month after 2 years, and one who wore them for 3 years and who got them off 4 years ago. We didn't worry too much about actual food and never had a problem. Sticky candy was something I worried about, but my girls really didn't. They assured me that they knew what they were doing and I have to say, they were right. The older one never broke a wire or loosened a brace. For the younger one, it happened once. Not bad when you consider between them they wore braces for 5 years! Good luck with your "braces experience".

My kids eat anything they want and we have yet to break anything causing an extra visit to the ortho.

I've had braces for 3 1/2 years and I really don't worry about what I'm eating...I have had brackets come off several times, but most of the time it actually has nothing to do with food. My orthodonist has a ridiculous list of things you're not supposed to eat with braces...some of them make sense, but according to the list, you're not even supposed to eat taco shells or tortilla chips. The only thing I can think of right now that has made something pop off was raw carrots.

My DD got her braces when she was 8, she is 9 now and she also had top and bottom expanders... She has NEVER had a problem with eating ANYTHING....... She even eats airheads (taffy). I would not worry about it at all.

Yup my pickey eater lived off pizza and McD's fries!!

Hes a pretty healthy kid though. Dont worry they find what they can eat.

Mine too. She has had braces for 15 months and never had a problem with anything she eats. The only think I won't let her have is corn on the cob. We cut the corn off. And, she is not allowed to bite into a whole apple. Those have to be sliced. At first, I was really worried about everything she was eating, but it works out. Try not to worry too much.

I have to go with the majority here. DS had braces for 3 years and ate anything he wanted to, he chewed gum and ate taffy as well - no problems. I guess I wouldn't worry about it. DD gets braces next month and I will not be restricting what she eats either.
