BRACES - questions to mom's who's kids have braces

my kids wanted:

KFC mashed potatoes and gravy.
Spaghetti
Mrs Grass Chicken Noodle soup
Pancakes
Quiche
yogurt
Ice Cream

I'm not a mom of a kid but instead an adult with braces and I found eating mashed potatos, instant oatmeal, mac and cheese, and mushy veggies (like canned) all worked well. Soup, too, was good. For the most part, they hurt so bad those first few days that I ate very little but when I did, I stuck to those things.

First 2 days, my DS11 wanted me to bring him a McDonald's shake and fries for lunch at school. He never asks for anything, I felt so sorry for him.

He really didn't eat much for 2 days. I tried eggs, bananas, jello, soup, mac & cheese etc.

chicken noodle soup with crackers that have been cracked up and soaked til soggy in the soup-very filling.
Orange sherbet
ice cream
mashed potatoes
applesauce
oatmeal
spagetti

after a couple days, my kids did pretty good with peanut butter and jelly. (Easier than coldcuts)

I was interested also, my dd11 is getting her braces on tomorrow.

My DD, 11, got braces a few months ago...it was VERY painful for her, and still is every time they make adjustments. Lots of Motrin, and to eat, she liked:

plain Spaghettios
fruit baby food (no kidding-she asked for it!)
applesauce
pudding
mashed potatoes
pureed cream of broccoli soup
Jello
scrambled eggs
after a day or so, she ate mac and cheese, rice pudding, spaghetti

It's been really hard to give her a balanced diet, cause so many of the fruits and veggies she would normally eat are on her "forbidden foods" list-raw carrots and celery, strawberries, kiwi, etc Good luck!

just becareful with your really cold or really hot foods...Teeth are pretty sensitive and you can't really blow on hot food very well..I used to have braces..Mash taters are good, and scrambled eggs... just think of stuff that is mushy and your don't really have to chew up...

Mac N Cheese, oatmeal, jello, Ramen and ice cream :). My dd was able to eat normal foods in about two days. Her first few adjustments hurt, but now they don't bother her much and she can eat regular foods the same day.

My son loves Jamba Juice so he had that every day. Add that to the cost of his braces ;)

When you first get your braces on it hurts to even have your teeth touch together. It took 4 days for my son to feel better.

Good Luck.

My DS didn't have problems when he first got his braces on. I gave him Motrin in the morning and right before we left to get his braces and he took it for another day and was fine. Cold foods like ice cream might be nice and soothing.

When i first got my braces put on I was pretty grumpy. I couldn't chew anything because it hurt to have my teeth connect! And yogurt was good but i had to slide it off my spoon and into my mouth cause the spoon hitting my teeth was sheer pain! I found it hard to use straws for a couple of days too because the brackets felt like they were going to shred the insides of my mouth. Soft serve ice cream and apple sauce were also good. Lots AND LOTS! of motrin/advil, take some before the appointment!!! Oh, and a magic bag heated up on my face felt pretty good on day 3 or 4.... once the shredding feeling subsided a bit.

Not a mom, but spent over 2 years in braces. When I first got my braces I had a heat activated wire (in the middle of winter) so it was (from what I understand) more intense than a normal wire. The first couple days I wanted nothing but mashed potatoes, soup (although not any that had really chunky meat in it because I couldn't chew it), applesauce, jello, yogurt, ice cream, and snow. For about another week I was on the mashed potatoes, soft pasta, and mac and cheese diet. I had to eat that sort of thing a lot during the two years, actually, because a lot of the adjustments they did were major adjustments. I also got braces in multiple appointments (tops first, then bottoms 9 months later, additional top braces a few months after that, etc). So all of that made it so I was eating soft food a lot
