Braces...HELP MEEEE!?!

I just got braces and uhm.

I AM IN SO MUCH PAIN.
Does anyone have any tips/ ways to get my teeth to stop yelling at me?


Oh and when can I eat solid food again

Pain? Take some painkillers. They make all the difference.

Food? Eat squishy stuff for a couple days. Mac n Cheese, pancakes, that kind of stuff.

Depending on how much it hurts, you should be able to go back to solid food in 2-3 days.

You Will Be Able To Eat Food Tomorrow afternoon At The Most. Trust me you wont know the braces are on your teeth after the first week. ive had many for a couple months almost a year.

Take pain killers (like ibuprofen, ect) BEFORE your appointment. It will make a world of difference.

Mashed potatoes, jello, grilled cheese, ect.

Oh, I'm so glad I've gotten that all over with.

ibuprofen, ibuprofen, ibuprofen. Take it now. Take it often. (It's really difficult to overdose on ibuprofen, but be careful.)

Take tylenol/montrin...any pain killers.

eat things like-

• Pudding
• Ice Cream
• Soup
• Apple Sauce

forgot to mention..

I have a bite plate and a jaw widner.

So 1) I cant chew.. at ALL.
2) Solidish food gets stuck in my jaw thingy.
3) Advil does nothing My teeth hurt when a toothbrush touches them D:

Massage your gums. I know it sounds gross but it has really worked for me in the past.

Yeah, I had the palate expander too.

How long are you expected to have them on?

Biggest thing: pain control and good oral hygiene.

For the first few times, yes. But i got my wire tightened and ruber bands around my front 2 teeth yesterday...and it doesnt hurt me anymore. And what is really strange is that i had a big gap inbetween my front 2 teeth yesterday and overnight it closed up with the ruberband and it didn't even hurt...so it will stop hurting after a few times you go. Your mouth just has to get used to it.

The tech got some on my tongue. It literally made me gag!

Yeah, its like this at every time you get new bands or wire. At least for me it was. I think its different for everyone.

However taking pain meds before my appointments helped me tremendously!

My braces are (hopefully) on later this year/early 2010. They'll be on for my 21st birthday. Oh joy in heaven haha...

You know, it all depends on the size and shape of your wire as to how long it's going to hurt. When you first get braces it hurts a lot more, than after a year and you're using a thinner wire.
It also depends on ligatures. I hate them with the flaming passion. I just had a woman tie two of my brackets together with ligatures and the hurt for almost a week and I couldn't chew anything. It was terrible.
