Hi!

I have heard there is an area in the World of Disney store has items/activities for boys, just like the Bippity Boppity Bootique for girls. Has anyone heard of it, experienced it, etc.? I think my ds would love it, but I don't want to get him excited about it if there's not much there...I'm looking for where to go for information.

Thanks for any and all replies! :goodvibes

I certainly wouldn't call it an equivalent; it is actually set up as a way to keep the boys busy while they are waiting for their sisters. What it is is the "Pirates Shop" that is set up in the action toys area of the store, at the far opposite corner of the building from where BBB is located.

There are no hands-on activities other than messing about with the merchandise, and no CM interaction except as a salesclerk normally would interact. There is a cool animatronic pirate sitting on top of a merchandise display; he has periodic chats with his animatronic parrot. There are two "fill up the container" toy sections with little items like coins, etc., one that lets you fill a skull, the other lets you fill a small treasure chest. (The TC was cheaper, but they were sold out of those when we were there last.) There is also a decorate-your-own-pirate-hat counter--you can buy the hat and extra accessories to personalize it, a la Jack Sparrow. They have a nice spooky recreation of the jail scene in the entrance doors next to the display, but smaller kids were a little freaked out by that and by the talking pirate at times. There is also a fairly large pin sale display in this section, mostly pins that would appeal to boys.

A better "special" activity for a boy, IMO, is one of the pirate cruises, if he's old enough.

NotUrsula, thank you so much for your reply!

My ds will be 9, so it sounds like this "store", would not be much of a thrill. I will look into the pirate cruises!

We'll definitely visit, but you're right, I don't think I could call this a special activity for him.

Thanks Again!

Just FYI, at 9, some boys feel too old for pirate cruises -- mine won't do them anymore. They take kids 4-12, but the peak age for them is around 6 I would say, though I think older kids still usually enjoy them the first time out. PC's are not boys-only, though they tend to get more boys than girls attending.

I think for the average 9 yo boy, Disney Quest is probably the best "special" activity on property, at least while it is still there. Several hours of really good video games seems to be nirvana for the 9 yo set. (Though not so much for their parents.)

The thing mine is dying to do is the surfing lessons at Typhoon Lagoon. They need to be strong swimmers for this one, and it is pricey, but the reviews I've heard from the middle-school set are glowing. I want him to get just a little better at swimming in surf before he does this, and I'm going to make him pay part of the cost out of his savings, but I expect I'll let him do it before the end of next summer.

I hadn't even thought of DisneyQuest, but ds loves electronic games...we'll definitely have to set a time limit, otherwise I might not get him out of there. I think he swims o.k. for a 9 yr old, but I don't think he's ready for surf lessons yet. It does sound like a great time for an older boy, I hope your's has a blast!
