Boys and energy levels

That's not at all true and I take offense at your calling Ritalin "baby crack."

We are currently having our son tested for ADHD. He is not like the other boys in his class, as much as it pains me to say it. I wish he were. I wish his energy level was just a normal boy level, but it's not.

People with views like yours make life much more difficult for those of us with children who do indeed have ADHD and, believe me, our lives are difficult enough.
For those that do need meds,by all means do what ever you must do. Ritalin has been given to kids that do not need it . It is well known that ritalin as well as some of the other drugs that are used to control our kids are being sold in the schools. Some of these kids play the role ,get the drugs and sell them. Look at what some of the parents wrote, most of the boys and girls that are just thinking and moving at a faster pace are told that they may have ADHD. My son's teacher told us that he may be ADHD because he did not take a nap when the other kids did. He just wanted to play. There is nothing wrong with him. When you read these post ,almost all of us have dealt with this issue, was it easy, no . We had our son tested and it was negative for him. For those that know that thier child needs help, get the help that you need. If you get offended by what I wrote, God bless your heart.

"The Wonder of Boys" is a great book for moms of boys to read. I highly reccomend it. No, not all boys are active, but it is silly to pretend that they are the same as girls. They are more physical in nature. Don't stress about it...your little guy sounds perfectly normal to me. Take him to the park when you get a chance, to get some of that energy out.

My oldest son moves almost all the time .... when allowed. I once asked the doc about it and he said the fact that he CAN sit and wait (say when waiting for the dentist or at school) is an important difference between kids w/ adhd and those w/out. He doesn't like it, but he CAN. He also suggested that I 'make' him sit and wait sometimes - rather than letting him play off to the side - as it helps him learn self-control and body control. (ie. Dont LET them always move [at inappropriate times] because you think it will help, it doesnt, but GIVE them lots of time to spend their energy too.)

I can really relate to the OP when you said you saw a difference when her son couldnt get outside each day.....if it's rainy and he cant get out to move it's as if his body cant ever relax. Once you turn 10 at our gym they let you use the exercise equipment, so he comes w/me and runs on the tread mill. It's pretty funny - he just goes and goes and goes - even after an hour he doesnt seem tired at all - but boy, does he sleep better! I'm thinking of buying one for home. My coworker heard about this and bought her son an exercise bike - she said it's like a miracle!

Good luck OP - hopefully, getting back outside will make the difference.:thumbsup2:)

ps - I think the point my doc was making is that many parents let the kids run around (restaurants, doctors offices), dont teach them to sit still (dont want to be 'mean' of think its 'fine'), and then think something is wrong - he just feels strongly that parents need to be more strict these days. I do know there are boys/girls who are clinically ADHD, that is a whole different thing.
