I actually can't think of what to get my own kids....after browsing amazon and toys r us this is what i'm thinking..

8 yr old

Bakugan - only thing he asked for

Cupunk ? not really sure what this is but seen commercials..

Nerf Dart Tag - think he might have fun

Neds Head Game - again not really sure what it is but it got good reviews

10 yr old

Mets Cap - asked for

itunes gift card (he has the touch)

Bogo Stick

Cell Phone (want him to get use to using one..as he'll be in middle school next year and want him to have it for the bus in case)

Also thinking of giving them 8 scratch off lottery tickes each..

They have the Wii but no game they really want for it...

oh geez this is hard

we celebrate hanukkah, so i like to give them 1 gift a night (8 nights)

This year my boys are turning 9 and 10 years old in December. I have so many things to get them, that I can't get it all. Here are some things they are getting for birthdays/Christmas gifts.

Marshmallow shooter crossbow. from amazon.com
chess sets
diary of a wimpy kid the ugly truth
fishing vest
basketballs
legos
i tunes gift card
camera for the 9 year old
1 board game each. Creationary, and apples to apples disney
modal cars. The kind they put together and paint.

Last year the big hit was snap circuits. They love those, and they still use them. My youngest who was 8 last year go a bunch of bakugon at his request. That lasted a couple months, now he never touches them.

We're in the same boat with Hanukkah, plus my DS' 8th birthday is December 4th (this year right smack-dab in the middle!) Here's what he is getting:

Mater Tall Tales DVD
Lego Star Wars footies
Yoda shirt exclusive from Hollywood Studios
Lego Battles for DS
1 Star Wars Lego set
Lego Harry Potter game (didn't buy it yet!)
Scrabble game in an apple (can't remember what it's called)
TS3 Mr. Potato Head set (probably a joint gift for both kids)

Can't think what else right now but I know he has loads of stuff up there...I buy throughout the year as I see good deals.

For his birthday we are getting him an MP3 player.

What we do is have the kids open one gift a night and they get to pick which one so they can't blame us, LOL. I wrap all of DD's gifts in one kind of paper and all of DS's gifts in a different one. They also "get" each other one gift and of course then get stuff from my family. (If they pick something small like a puzzle one night, they know that there may be something bigger the next day so they can't complain!) ;)

we pretty much do the same letting them pick the gift!

Legos are usually good for this age group. If he has an iPod, iTunes gift cards. One year we got my son a wallet with some gift cards in it for places like subway, movies, etc.

Forgot to mention we have gotten Cuponk for birthday gifts several times and it went over well the first time (second one wasn't given yet.)

Here is the Christmas list for my 6 and almost 10 year old. I was just working on my budget.

10 year old
I love robots Blazor dinosaur robot (he saw this in Boy's Life and was hooked)
donkey kong wii game
pokemon cards
stocking stuffers
Kirby Yarn Wii game
ds game tbd
Colored pencils
Art paper and holder

6 year old.
Pikachu park wii game
Matchbox play set
Lightsaber wall lamp
stocking stuffers
Lego minotaur game
ds game tbd
toy to be named later

Here are some ideas:

* legos
* Loopz game
* spy stuff - spy camera watch, detective kit, etc
* consider Mario Kart for your Wii - Flingsmash also looks fun and comes w/new motion remote if you were going to upgrade to those/need a new remote anyway
* cuponk is on our list too!!
* selection of books and dvds
* portable dvd player

Also, consider stuff to do over winter break, like gift cards for bowling, movies, museum, classes for karate, etc

:thumbsup2Cuponk is supposed to be a hot toy for that age group, it's on sale at Target right now. We are waiting for "Despicable me" to come out and buy it, I'm guessing it will be released sometime december before Christmas.

Basketball
Football
Legos - Star Wars and Harry Potter *both really wants this*
Bakugan *the younger one only wants the Dragonoid Colossus, not the individual balls, the older one doesn't care for them*
Magic set
Science kits - found these at Borders for Electricity, Inventions, etc.
GC to Jamba Juice
books - Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Series of Unfortunate Events, Percy Adams

Here's what I'm thinking for mine:

DS9:
Mighty Beanz & track
Beyblade toys
Kirby Epic Yarn for Wii
Epic Mickey for Wii
Fossil Fighters for ds (he asked for this, his brother has it and they want to play together)
dsi
Bop-it Bounce

He has asked for Cuponk after seeing it on a commercial, but I have to say I really don't get it, it's a cup with a ping pong ball, right? Is there something more to it??

I think Loopz would be a good gift, too, and a marshmallow shooter. My kids got to try the crossbow at cub scouts and many of the 9yo's weren't strong enough to use it, but they still thought it was cool.

DS11 has moved on to mostly electronics, but I'm also getting him a marble run. He got Snap Circuits last year and loves them.

I was wondering the same thing. I played a similar game in college with beer in the cupp!:rotfl:

I was just going to post this too! My son will hate me if I buy this because I will kick his butt - I was a quarters champion! I bet it's even easier with a ball!

Can I ask where you found the lightsaber wall lamp? My 11yo would love that.

Can someone explain what paperjamz are? I am on the hunt for things for my DS ages 8 and 14.
